Which Colleges Should a Junior Finance Major Attempt to Transfer to?

Hi guys.

I have just completed my freshman year at Missouri Southern State University and I'm majoring in finance. Because of financial issues, I'll be completing another year at MSSU.

I'm almost certain that I'll have to transfer if I want to achieve my goal of becoming an analyst (in corporate finance) in a region other than southwest Missouri.

I have a 4.0 GPA. I have taken financial accounting and business calculus. I'm taking microeconomics right now and in the fall, I'll take statistics, managerial accounting, and macroeconomics.

I'll definitely be applying to the University of Missouri and the University of Richmond. I need to find universities that meet a high percentage of need for transfer students.

I know that I will have no problem transferring to the University of Missouri, but does anyone have suggestions of other universities that would accept me as a junior transfer student?

Does MSSU has a transfer office? I’m sure they would give you a long list

@4kidsdad It does have a transfer office, but it’s for students who are transferring to MSSU.

You may want to investigate the following schools:

See <a href=“Missouri Southern State University Degree Programs, Online Courses and Admissions Information”>http://www.collegeatlas.org/missouri-southern-state-university.html.

Also try to ask your nearby community colleges’ transfer offices. They should know any transfer-friendly schools. For example, St. Louis Community College has an impressive list: http://www.stlcc.edu/admissions_and_registration/transfer_information/Transfer_Guides.html

@4kidsdad My reason for transferring is so that I can go to a university with a better business school. The University of Missouri’s in Columbia is the best one in Missouri besides Washington University’s.

My understanding is that finance is a prestige-driven field. Would you agree with that?

^^Are you looking to work at “finance firms in NYC”? See <a href=“Maybe looking to transfer to a smaller school, Berkeley is a bit LARGE - #31 by vengasso - College Search & Selection - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/1158084-maybe-looking-to-transfer-to-a-smaller-school-berkeley-is-a-bit-large-p3.html

@4kidsdad: I would actually love to work at a middle-market investment bank in Boston or D.C. Of course I wouldn’t refuse to live in NYC, but I’d prefer a slightly smaller city.

I was browsing Piper Jaffray’s website and it wants people who have gone to a tier 1 business school. I don’t see how I can be accepted to or afford a college like Michigan or Wharton.

Does anyone have any other opinions?
