Which colleges should I eliminate?

uw gpa: 3.0 (85)
w gpa: 3.5 (90)

Took 5 AP’s and many honors classes. I’m not a bad student, I just had a lot of personal problems that had to do with my health that impacted my freshman year grades significantly.

In my essay I wrote about hardships with my life and everything I went through high school and what I learnt. (Please tell me if I should change it.)

SAT: 1300 out of 1600
ACT: 27 out of 36

As far as extracurriculars go:
World Honors Society Member (potentially, I’m not sure if I’m sending this in because we haven’t found out yet, I assume I did not get in anyways.)
Vice President + President of key club: did many things while having these positions including setting up a donation drive for the people who were killed or injured in Haiti, and other causes.
Presidentand chairperson of fundraisers of students against destructive decisions club.
JV Volleyball - 1 year
Varsity Volleyball - 1 year
Varsity Gymnastics - 3 years
Varsity Cheerleading - 1 year

These are the colleges that I’m thinking about. Yes I know I have to decrease this list exponentially. So please let me know which ones aren’t even worth applying to with my stats. (I’m def applying to the last 3 because why not.) Thanks!

American Univ
U of Arizona
Binghamton
U of CO Boulder
UConn
U of Delaware
Drexel Univ
U of Florida
U of Hartford
Hofstra Univ
U of IL Urbana-Champaign
Indiana U Bloomington
UMD College Park
U of MA Amherst
U of Miami
Pennsylvania State Univ
U of Pittsburgh
SUNY Stony Brook
SUNY Geneseo
Syracuse Univ
Temple Univ
The Ohio State University
U of Vermont
West Virginia Univ
University at Buffalo
University of Tampa
Rutgers Univeristy
Marist College
LIU Post
SUNY New Paltz
George Washington University
SUNY Oneonta
University of Albany
Florida State University
Northeastern - extreme reach but hey, why not try?
USC - extreme reach but hey, why not try?
UC Berkeley - extreme reach but hey, why not try?

Miami, UF, and Ohio State may be a bit of a reach, depending on if you’re in state or OOS

Depends on your state, because you have a lot of state u’s on your list. What state are you from?

Can you afford the OOS schools?

New York

PSU will be $47k/year and might be a bit of a stretch with your GPA, so I’d probably eliminate that one if you have cheaper options.

I can afford all of the schools on the list btw.

Remove the schools in us news top 100

Well, thanks for making me feel like crap!

I can help by going school by school. Remember, these numbers are based directly off of the numbers you gave, and assuming you write a decent essay.:

American Univ -15%
U of Arizona- decent chance, probably will be admitted. Would you also consider Arizona State University?
Binghamton- probably about 20%
U of CO Boulder- proabably close to a 75% chance, you’re below average GPA but above average ACT
UConn- probably about 30% but you’d need a strong essay.
U of Delaware- about a 60% chance
Drexel Univ- probably about a 75% chance
U of Florida- probably about 20%
U of Hartford- 80%
Hofstra Univ- 65%
U of IL Urbana-Champaign- depends on the major, anywhere from 5-20%
Indiana U Bloomington- 60%
UMD College Park- <5%
U of MA Amherst- 40%
U of Miami- <5%
Pennsylvania State Univ- 45%
U of Pittsburgh- 15%
SUNY Stony Brook- 15%
SUNY Geneseo- 33%
Syracuse Univ- 45%
Temple Univ- 80%
The Ohio State University- 30%
U of Vermont- 80%
West Virginia Univ- 90%
University at Buffalo- 70%
University of Tampa- 75%
Rutgers Univeristy- 25%
Marist College- 50%
LIU Post- you’ll get in
SUNY New Paltz- 50%
George Washington University- 5%
SUNY Oneonta- 45%
University of Albany- 70%
Florida State University- 25%

You have less than 2% with all three of these schools.

Northeastern - extreme reach but hey, why not try? With all due respect, Because you won’t get in and you’ll waste money.
USC - extreme reach but hey, why not try? With all due respect, Because you won’t get in and you’ll waste money.
UC Berkeley - extreme reach but hey, why not try? With all due respect, Because you won’t get in and you’ll waste money.

So I’d Recommend this

Safety schools:
U of Hartford
West Virginia
Vermont
LIU post

Middle Schools:
Indiana U Bloomington
Hofstra University
University of Delaware
Arizona

Reach Schools(Don’t underestimate the importance of your essay. Just because you have a 25% chance, doesn’t mean that’s a good chance.):
Florida State
Florida
Rutgers
UConn

I’d recommend taking out all the SUNY’s, and anything you have less than 25% chance at… So your new list becomes:

U of Arizona
U of CO Boulder
UConn
U of Delaware
Drexel Univ
U of Hartford
Hofstra Univ
Indiana U Bloomington
U of MA Amherst
Pennsylvania State Univ
Syracuse Univ
Temple Univ
The Ohio State University
U of Vermont
West Virginia Univ
University at Buffalo
University of Tampa
Rutgers Univeristy
Marist College
LIU Post
George Washington University
University of Albany
Florida State University

The thing I notice is you haven’t decided what type of school you want. Take this shortened list and decide how big/small you want.

If you focused outside of the top 100 schools some great options including your schools are open to you and you will have good choices:

Alabama
Arizona
Arizona State
Colorado State
Hofstra
Temple
Albany
Buffalo
St Johns
Seton Hall
UCF
USF
FAU
FGCU
DePaul

You should limit your list to 15 at the most so we can help evaluate your chances.
