Hi Kira,

This is a copy of my post on another question:

I suggest you go to the Assoc of Colleg of arch schools. You have to sign up to view all the 134 architecture schools in the US ACSA 3.0: SEARCH

http://www.archschools.org/guide_search/home.aspx

Read about the schools then go to the websites where you will learn about their specifics and sometimes they tell you exactly what you need to get in to their school. ie CAl Poly SLO and Virg tech require a 4.0. Penn state entrance is primarily based on GPA and SAT.

Congrats on your desire to take on this major. Arch schools are varied. Some are more art based which have different requirements than programs in universities. Do some research on what schools appeal to you and many layout what they require, what qualities are most important ie GPA or portfolio and how competitive they are. Good luck.

Just a heads up…
You may be able to transfer your credits from the cc to a 4-year architecture program and complete your 3rd and 4th years there. If you are interested in a 5-yr B Arch program, while they may accept your credits, you will probably have to start as a first year student and continue for all 5 years at that school. My daughter just graduated from Penn State with a B Arch degree. They have 10 studio classes that must be taken sequentially, so that’s why it takes 10 semesters. I think I read somewhere that the average GPA of students admitted to PSU as architecture majors was a 4.0.
If you plan to do 2 years at a cc and then transfer into an arch program elsewhere, you should contact the architecture department at some of the schools and find out what the policy is for students transferring from a cc. Good luck.

But come on that’s total ********!!! The average gpa of transfers to SOA at VTech and PSU are Deff not 4.0 lol. First off thats saying all 100% had 4.0 psshhh please. They are NOT!!! I have friends in both as transfers… its more around 3.5-3.75 area would be more “AVERAGE”… this lady is so full of it hahaha

Architecture11 - I’d suggest you read carefully before you say someone is full of it.
- The average highschool gpa of incoming freshmen architecture majors at BOTH Penn State and Virginia Tech IS above 4.0. (By the way, contrary to your statement - “average” is NOT the same as “100%”)
- The transfer process for architecture at both schools is extremely rigorous and requires very specific requirements. In addition, transfering into the BARch program at any school can set you back to a first year student. It can be done, but it’s not easy or straightforward. Transfers also involve portfolio review, which is not something required for incoming freshmen at PSU or VT. Faculty review of what the transfer applicant’s portfolio looks like plays a big part in the transfer process.
