Which degree for Medical School - Biomedical Engineering vs Biology

This is something my friend would like answered:

Which B.S. Degree would colleges prefer when trying to get admission into Medical school.

Would medical schools prefer a student with a Biology Degree or a Biomedical Engineering degree. Lets say both have a GPA of 3.5. Which student would be much more likely to be admitted into Medical School and have a better chance.

Also, which degree has more opportunity in new medical advances of the future.

If you can get a 3.5 in engineering then that would be fantastic. However it’s not as easy as biology. You’ll have to think that a ton of people who apply to med school majored in things like biology or chemistry. However med schools still have that general unspoken rule of high GPA’s being basically required. Probably depends on how hard engineering is known to be at your school.

The main factors are GPA and MCAT scores. Your undergrad major also plays a significant role. Biology and Premed seem to be the two biggest “feeders” for medical school. Obtaining an engineering degree may be a good approach to gain medical school admission but one is probably better off obtaining a pure science degree and scoring as high as possible on the MCAT.

Whatever you decide, here are some links to authoritative information on the matter. Enjoy!
