That means diddly squat. If you want a PhD in oceanography, you head for UCSD or URI. If you want a PhD in religion, you head for Chicago or Emory. The Ivies are most definitely not always the best place to get a PhD.

Pretty much all of the sciences are strong at Wake. I don't know about econ, but Wake has good business and finance programs with math tracks.

I agree with warblers, IL staff doesn't mean anything. WFU's biz program is #17 ranked, I don't know about the sciences

Check out the Physics Dept. Webpage. This department is excellent. Personal attention to undergraduates since it is a small department. VERY enjoyable faculty and great research opportunities for undergrads on faculty projects.

Cannot answer your question, but will share that Wake Forest is an outstanding academic and social institution which has the closeness of a liberal arts school even though it is correctly classified as a national university. WFU can be a good choice for the student who wants the best of a small LAC and the benefits of a mid-sized research university.

Really good sciences, good Econ department, but small and mediocre Math and Compsci.
