So I asked this question on the Gtown thread, so I might as well ask it here too. Which ones better for pre-med support (mabye chemistry as major), languages (especially Japanese), and economics? I know it's a wide range, but that's what I'm interested in now.

I would say that languages and Economics would be better at Gtown. I have several friends who study both Economics and languages in Georgetown, and their program seems to be stronger especially for the languages. Georgetown’s SFS has strong language requirements, and it seems that a lot of students elect to do in-depth studies in a foreign language.

Wake’s Economics department is sufficient, from personal experience. I am dual major, and one of them is Economics, and the program is pretty solid. Nothing to write home about though. A lot of Economics majors end up doing very well in job market, especially the students who do the Mathematical Economics majors (this is also the track for those who want to do to PhD studies in Econ after WFU).

We have a pretty diverse options in regards to foreign languages at Wake considering the small size, and that is because everyone here has to graduate with at least one literature-based course in a foreign language (typically 4 semesters of study). However some languages like Arabic have only one or two professors teaching it.

Even as a WFU student, I’d recommend Georgetown as a better academic fit if those are your areas of interest. Most people do change majors multiple times, and I’d also look at which school you’d enjoy being at more. Both WFU and Georgetown are relatively preppy, wealthy, and conservative. Georgetown has a much more international student body, and you’ll be living in the middle of DC. Wake Forest will have a bit more intimate campus feel, and will have a very “collegiate” feel. Wake’s social scene is very heavy on Greek life, while Gtown has more social avenues. Plus, the whole city of DC allows students to partake in urban life if they want to.

Hi, NakaAoi!

Congratulations on your acceptances! Not a bad decision to be making I was wondering if you have visited both of these schools? I did, and I thought that they were very, very different feeling.

Both schools are great academically so I’m sure the programs are fairly comparable, although I don’t really have specific details on either. For the sake of transparency, I really loved Georgetown when I visited it and have not one negative thing to say about it.

One of the great things about WF is that I believe you can pre-qualify for WF Med School and not have to take the MCAT. I’d look into that before you make your decision if you are serious about medical school.

You can also get assured admission into Georgetown’s med school with a certain GPA as an undergrad from Georgetown. I believe you do not need to take the MCAT there either.
