I've been told that some of the dorms like Brackenridge and Prathers are more geared toward upperclassmen, and that freshmen would be better off living in more freshmen-oriented dorms like Jester. Now I've heard many horrible things about Jester, but I've also heard that their renovated floors aren't too bad. I've also heard good things about the Honors dorms, with their one flaw being their location.

In a word, all of them. You’ll be fine anywhere.

The honors dorms location is great and the dorms have a nice inner quad area. You are close to the six pack and close to Kinsolving, you’ve got the Littlefield Patio cafe, and you are right near the drag.

Jester is a little bit gross in the non-renovated rooms and is way too big for my personal taste. However, the many, many food options inside the dorm make it a pretty good place to live.

From a personal standpoint, I love the Honors Quad. I thought it was going to be far from everything, but it’s actually close to a lot, especially if you’ll be in an honors program, like Plan II. It only takes up to 10 minutes tops to get to the McCombs side of campus, and the Quad is close to the Kinsolving’s market and cafeteria and Littlefield Cafe, so food is really close. More importantly, the Honors Quad is pretty small and close-knit, so you get to see familiar faces a lot and it gives UT a much closer community feel.
