I just found out that I was accepted to Baylor and am trying to decide which dorm i would like to stay in. Penland? Alexander? Martin? Brooks? Should I stay in a double room? a triple?

Unless the dorms have changed, Alexander is a girl's dorm. Penland is the traditional dorm for freshmen. The old Brooks dorm was torn down to make way for Brooks College - which has a Cambridge feel. My young daughter said it reminded her of Hogwarts! I would go to the Baylor website and learn more about Brooks College. I spent four great years at Baylor. Great education - take advantage of your relationship with the professors. I found them to be very available to the students and helpful after college life with connecting me to jobs, opportunities, etc. Best of luck.

i believe that Alexander is the guys honor dorm

thanks for the feedback btw

Yep, Alexander is the guys honor dorm now. Which stinks, because it's much nicer than Memorial, the girls honors dorm (where I stayed freshman year), IMO.

It really depends on personal taste. There are, of course, stereotypes for the types of people that live in each dorm, but obviously, those aren't always accurate.

Alexander is probably the best place if you want to be able to study at night. It's not always quiet, but it's more likely to be than the others. In Alexander, you have suite bathrooms, which is always nice. You do a lot with Memorial, so you're not just around guys all the time (not that you wouldn't be otherwise, but you know what I mean... I hope). If you're planning on being in the honors college, you'll be taking classes with a lot of these guys anyway, so getting to live with them is kind of nice, especially if you're in the BIC and are taking some of the exact same classes. On the other hand, some people don't want to be in an honors bubble all the time (though obviously even if you live in Alexander it's easy to have non-honors friends).

Brooks College is new this year. I'm living in Brooks Flats right now, and having a new facility is definitely preferable in some ways to living in old Memorial. It does have a "Hogwarts" feel, especially as the Great Hall (dining hall) looks almost exactly like the one in the Harry Potter movies (head table, "goblets", and all) since both were modeled on the same college. On the other hand, while Brooks is new, it's made some of the traditions of the old Brooks residence hall its own (and the old Brooks hall definitely had a reputation). The living arrangements at Brooks are REALLY nice, as you have suites.

Penland and Martin are your typical residence halls, with community bathrooms and a more stereotypical dorm-like feel.

You have a Bear ID by now, right? Have you visited the BIN yet? They often have good answers there.
