Which early?

Sup. I haven’t posted here in a while (procrastination really does take a precedent) and I really want to know what early I should do (because I’m lazy, and I want to get in early so I don’t have to do any more college apps). Because college apps suck and I have really bad senioritis.

I’m deciding between Harvard EA, MIT EA, Stanford EA, Upenn (Wharton) ED, and Princeton ED

Asian guy
School: pretty competitive school in NJ
GPA: 4.3 weighted, estimating a 3.8 unweighted (top gpa is 4.7ish and is doing Harvard EA)
Class Rank: our school doesn't rank, but im probably top 4%
SAT: 2300+ (Math: 800, Verbal: 800, Writing: 700+)
SAT II: Bio - 800, Chem - 800, Math II - 800, US History - 800, Chinese - 800

*AP's: *
-Calculus AB: 5 (self-study)
-US History: 5
-Chem: 5
-Bio: 5
-Env. Sci: 5 (self-study)
-Stats: 4 (self-study)

Schedule: broke school record for number of aps in a year (max before was 6)
*Senior Year: *
AP Physics B
AP Env Sci
AP Stats
AP Government and Politics
AP European History
AP English
AP Calculus BC

*Extracurriculars *
*In School *
-Math Team (4 years)
-FBLA (4 years), State board Vice-president
-Science Olympiad (3 years)
-Science League (3 years)
-NHS (2 years)
-French Honor Society (2 years)
-AMC and AIME math competitions(3 years)
-Varsity Swimming (4 years)
-Co-founder Frisbee team (1 year)
-volunteered as tutor (2 years)

Out of School
-Co-founded organization that goes to local nursing home every Saturday for 2 hours to teach the elderly English
-Volunteer at various hospitals and local Chinese school (over 1000 hours)

-AP Scholar with Distinction
-National Merit Semifinalist (PSAT: 237), most likely finalist
-All-State Orchestra (4 years)
-State FBLA Vice-President

*Work Experience *
-Interned under a doctor who specialized in diagnosing various cancers of the bone marrow and blood
-Worked as a lab assistant and fellow researcher (more like slave laborer) with a neuroscientist

*Random Stuff *
-Sending a music CD with a bunch of violin songs recorded on it
-Attended 6 years of CTY, studied biology, chemistry, physics, writing, model UN, game theory.
-Attended Partners in Science for 2 years (a research program that has a 15% acceptance rate. Basically matches people who are aspiring scientists with mentors. You write a paper and make a presentation at the end at Liberty Science Center)
-Attended NJABR (a biomedical program that you tour various labs and hospitals and universities around NJ. We got free stuff from Wyeth. Woo hoo. not really)

Teacher Recs should be good (I’m sending about 4-7 recs). Essay (about research, person who influenced me, and a humorous piece) should be decent, at least.

So yea. Which EA/ED (out of Harvard EA, MIT EA, Stanford EA, Upenn (Wharton) ED, and Princeton ED) am I best matched to?

The one you like the most.

"Teacher Recs should be good (I’m sending about 4-7 recs)."

...Do you want the adcoms to hate you for sending so many recs? The max any school allows is 3.

I'd think you're most matched for MIT with all your math/science stuff, but apply to the one you like most. Stanford is the hardest to get in early out of all those schools though, since they like to reject and don't defer much. I think it's pretty hard to get into MIT early too, though.

well i called harvard up. and the adcom said that while the official limit is 2 (3 with guidance), the person said that they receive, on average, 4-8 recs.

I was also wondering about stanford. i heard they take a lot of athletes. and that they're stingy with their open spots.

also I have a 35 on the ACTs. I was wondering if i should try for that 36?

Well, I guess you can have four recs if you have two teachers, one counselor, and one supplementary. That's still acceptable for a lot of schools. But eight!? That's just crazy! At the info sessions I've been to, admissions officers always said that if you sent in any more than four, they'll start to get annoyed.

But yes, Stanford recruits a lot of athletes who get in early. And they outright reject 60% of EA applicants, which is more than all the other top schools (definitely more than Harvard, which only rejects 5% outright EA). Princeton fills up 50% of its class ED with an acceptance rate of 27% or so, and I know Penn takes a good percentage ED too.

...Don't retake a 35. Honestly, the difference between a 35 and 36 is insignificant.

based on your quote from a previous post, does this mean that my application is weak compared to other stanford applicants?

Well, 53% of admits must be ranked lower than the top 1-2%...

So I guess you may be weaker, but it doesn't mean you can't get in. That's my opinion, at least.

Your stats are pretty good, and I think it's interesting that you were committed to both swimming (at the varsity level!) and math team... Stereotypically, one would think that people in those two activities are quite different. It might be interesting in your essays to do a comparison of sorts and talk about what you learned from those activities, how they were the same/different, and what about your personality made you talented in both fields. Just an idea.

As for which school to apply to early, I don't think any of us can write down a bullet-point list of what the differences are among the schools. I hope that you have visited them or at least read up on their websites so that you can decide which school you truly want to get into most.

No, your application isn't weak at all. Don't worry about your class rank, especially if your school won't even report it.

yeah, you are SOOO lazy!

Good luck, sorry about the senioritis..

Princeton ED or Harvard EA

i would suggest stanford EA or princeton ED

If you really want to take it easy, I suggest you find some rolling admissions schools that you would be happy attending (like Michigan) and fill out at least one more application this fall, besides your ED/EA application. You have great stats, EC's etc....but they are not so unusual for an Asian Male from the mid-atlantic/northeast.
