This is probably a unique thread lol :D

But I've narrowed my choices down to 2. I'm not picking beats because they are beats

So without further ado:

SOL Republic Tracks
Or

Bose oe2/oe2i

The Tracks come with a built in mic and cost 99.99

The Bose oe2 do not have mic and cost 149.99

Oe2i have mic and cost 179.99

I like tracks because they are cheaper and have a mic, look pretty hip

I like the Bose because... Bose

But there's a reason as to why I am asking: I'm not going to blast my tunes in my dorm or in a public area :p

Those are both terrible options. I don’t mean to be a snob, but it’s true. Sennheiser, Grado, Sony, Koss, and Beyerdynamic are good brands in that price range. Make sure you get headphones that match your preferences and the kind of music you listen to. Get closed headphones if you don’t want other people to hear your music, or open headphones if you want the best sound quality for your money.

I suggest Sennheiser in the mid-price range as well. Solid construction, great sound.

I’m using the Boss OE2 right now, and I bought it from Target for $150 about 7 months ago. It has a great sound quality and comfort. The one thing that I’ve been unsatisfied about is the quality of the wire that connects to the computer and the headset. Sometimes I’ve to move the wire couple of times until it connects both sides of the headset (the right and left speakers). However, this might be due to my usage, since I had the wire pulled out from its position a lot. I would recommend that you go with a Wireless headset from Boss.

listen to posters #2 and #3. bose, sol, and beats are all wastes of money.

go with sennheiser or koss, better quality for lower price.

My son, who works in audio, bought us Sennheiser HD280 pro headphones. They’re really good but a bit heavier than the Bose ones that I thought were fine (but apparently should never have left the box). ;)

Try Audio Technica, don’t buy into those “noise cancelling” headphones

When I wanted headphones for college. I ended up at what turn out to be a popular headphones forum, head fi. A user on the site compared a ton of portable headphones. Its kind of daunting as it stands at over 100 now, but he has it split up by price. Its definetly a good place to start.

I have a pair of sennheiser HD 25 ii. They are kind of tight fighting but they have great sound. They are super durable and all of the parts are replaceble. Sennheiser also has an updated version of this headset. Don’t know if its out yet but it was announced at ces this year. Its called the aupore I believed. Anyways If you look around head fi you’ll find tons of tips on what to look for in a portable headphones.
