Which high school courses included in unweighted GPA? Just core courses or everything?

I have read Michigan website and they say they unweight GPA when evaluating candidates. Does that just include core acadamic courses (English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Language)? What about computer science, journalism kinds of courses? And then what about “others” like chorus, band, art etc. I have read conflicting information so I am wondering if anyone knows for sure what is included in their calculation

For UMich, they include all courses but without subgrades from all years in the uwGPA calculation.

They can calculate the GPA in a number of different ways. For example, they can calculate a GPA including just your core academic courses, they can calculate a GPA with or without +'s and -'s, etc. They have to recalculate GPAs in order to even out the playing field, since high schools calculate this number differently.

@umcoe16 OP is asking specifically the way UMich recalculate HS uwGPA. There is only one way and it has been described in adcom’s FAQ as I mentioned above.

Specifically – do they count courses like Art, journalism, band that we get grades in or just the core academic courses in the unweighted gpa?

It said all courses on their website.
