How do schools figure unweighted GPA?

I know each college will do it their own way, but is there any sort of standard? My high school only includes core courses. I already know that colleges usually include all courses. Also, what would a 98 be? Would that be a 4.3? Or a 4.33? Or a 4.0?

I have a 3.73 uwgpa based on my transcript, but courses that are not considered core courses are not included...like AP music theory (which I got a high A in). How can I figure what GPA the college would say I have?

Thanks!

GPA calculations vary by college, so the answer will depend on where you’re applying.

An unweighted GPA should have a max of 4.0. You don’t get a 4.3 or whatever for having a really high A.

Exactly how it gets calculated will vary by school, but very few colleges will actually calculate a weighted GPA. Typically they’re going to include all of your courses.
