Anyone have any experience with honors courses? Which are good and which aren't? Any comments on particularly good or bad profs or extremely difficult ones? Anything you've heard is appreciated. Thanks.

D’s filling out the form she needs to send to honors, ranking her honors preferences. She’s considering for her first choice: honors calc 3, followed by physics 1 w/ calculus. Same question as OP. Any info greatly appreciated.

I’d also like to know what it means when one reads:

Writing or Math Req: W - 6000

Following a course description. It looks to me like the “W” would stand for WRITING but am doubting that one would have to complete a 6000 level course prior to taking this class.

That probably means 6000 words requirement. So you will be writing papers for that class.

Wyngator, I was wondering the same thing, so thanks for asking. ASMAJ, thanks for your reply. It makes perfect sense.

^Yup. UF require that you take classes that total 24,000 words before you graduate. Classes that satisfy this requirement have W2000, W4000 or W6000 for reference.

I would probably stay away from Modern Physics Honors if Field is teaching it. He’s a smart guy (I went to a talk of his about his days at Caltech with Feynman) but his ability to teach is nonexistent. It is the only class I ever dropped.
