Which Idea for my Common App essay?

So for my common app essay I was just going to write it about the same topic I always write about. Then on the last day of school, my teacher and I were talking and he pointed out a different topic I should right about. Here are the two ideas, what are your opinions?

I was born prematurely, weighing in at one pound. I suffered many problems being as small as I was. In school I fell behind because I was not learning, unable to retain information. I had to attend 'special classes up until my first year of second grade.I had to repeat second grade and only then passed after going through many tutors. Then In Middle School/ High school something changed. I began moving up. I made it into Honors and AP classes and did very well. I took up horseback riding and competed. I even joined track making Varsity.I used to hate this story and thought it was stupid. Looking back however I find it remarkable that I had come so far, to beat the odds.

My parents divorce. It doesn't contain much other than a lot of drama, and how it effected me. I write about this a lot because it did provoke a change in me. However being that I write about it so much I get rather bored of hearing the same sob story again and again. I don't want a sob story, no sympathy points here.

Both stories made me who I am today.

Regardless of topic, colleges don’t want to hear a sob story; they want to hear how you’ve overcome the adversity in your life and become a better person despite all the crap the world has thrown at you. So, just from the way you phrased your options, #1 is the better choice. Although, it’s difficult to tell without having written a first draft yet. I would write both and see which one you like the best.
