Which Industrial Design school is best?

So I currently go to UIUC for Electrical Engineering, but am planning to switch to Industrial Design. I just need to know, between UIUC and UW-Stout, which would be better the school for industrial design? I am a Wisconsin resident, and if UW-Stout is seen as a better value, then I can get in-state tuition and transfer, but I’ve seen maybe one ranking between the two, and not enough information about either, so I’d really appreciate any information! Thank you!

Well, there are few rankings for individual majors and departments on the undergrad level, so it’s difficult to make a determination whether UW-Stout or UIUC is “better” objectively at industrial design. I will say that UIUC is far better known for engineering in general and for industrial design specifically than UW-Stout. UIUC has a national reputation and for that reason attracts a wider, deeper range of recruiting companies than UW-Stout, which is a more regional campus.

However, rankings and reputation aren’t everything, and that shouldn’t be the final determination about whether you should transfer or not. Lots and lots of students go to small regional campuses and become quite successful later on.

How much will you be saving? Are you enjoying yourself at UIUC? Are you borrowing money, and if so, how much? What do you want to do? What are the odds you might change your major again? I would hesitate to transfer just because of a major change unless UIUC is stretching your budget.

Don’t choose UIUC for ID. The program here sucks and the professors don’t know how to teach their students.

Why do you say so?
