Which is better for journalism, Columbia or Northwestern

I am an international journalist and was approved in both schools. I am interested in entrepreneurial journalism as I have experience writing. I don´t know which school to choose. I like Northwestern classes better but the school is not really known in my country, so I am not totally sure if its reputation as one of the best in journalism in US remains the same. At the same time, I feel tempted about Columbia for being an Ivy League, but they did not offer me a scholarship. Where would you go if you were in my place?

You saying that you didn’t get a scholarship from Columbia makes it sound like you did get one from Northwestern. Northwestern obviously has an amazing journalism school. If you are trying to return to your home country and if journalism is a prestige-focused field there, then Columbia might give you a small edge - but here in the U.S., Northwestern’s journalism would be just as good as Columbia’s, and you should definitely take it if you got scholarship money there.

Those are both very distinguished programs. Not only is NU a top college in the U.S. by any standards, grad school reputation in the U.S. is by department, not the name of the undergrad college as much (although universities like Columbia can make sure that whatever they do they do well.) Medill at Northwestern is considered a premier school of journalism in the U.S. Although a student in your country might not know that, surely those in the industry will.

I would delve into the program specifics and pick what appeals to you. And being awarded a scholarship is really a plum. Poynter has some good articles about aspects of different programs, this one has some details on each of those colleges
