NYU or Northwestern??

heeeellllppppp
I got into Northwestern Medill and NYU Global Liberal Studies program in Shanghai or Florence.
WHICH DO I CHOOSE???
On one hand, Northwestern has a really good national ranking, and they have a fantastic journalism school...
yet, NYU's offer is just irrefutable! 2 years in China or Italy, then 2 years in NYU! As an aspiring journalist, real life experience in different countries and integrating into different social and cultural background is pretty important. And China looks awesome!
I dont know which to choose :(
HELP PLEASE

Are finances similar between the two? Personally, I’ve never heard of a better journalism school than Northwestern, but I’ve also never heard of this NYU program, so I can’t compare them. Have you visited both schools?

It sounds like, assuming you can afford each one, that you have a very good choice to make. Good luck.

I think this winds up being your desire for a NY-fully-urban experience versus a more suburban Chicago experience. Apples and oranges.

Going to NU doesn’t preclude you from going abroad though. You can go overseas for as many times as you can fit into your schedule depending on your major and class requirements. I personally know a few Medill students. One interned at ABC News, Wall Street Journal, Cape Times (prestigious newspaper in South Africa), and Forbes (where she got several articles published). Another one got published in Good magazine (www.good.is). Another went to France, China, and South Africa.

Plus, Medill is highly respected and in these economic times, a degree from there is probably a lot more marketable than a degree in general liberal arts studies from anywhere else. Additionally, NU and Medill will both give you a lifetime of prestige. Those things said, if you prefer NYU, you can always just work for the paper there, develop a portfolio, try to get journalism internships and make it work that way.

Take Northwestern in a heartbeat. You will be able to study abroad for a year if you want and you will have more opportunities to travel once you graduate. It’s a patience game–invest in your future today so you can travel and report tomorrow.

Are they charging you NYU-Manhattan tuition/room & board while you are there?
These are two very different things. The NYU program is basically a study-aboard program on steroid. Note that at Medill, you can still pursue study aboard, foreign culture, history, or lanaguages; you will mostly have a second major in some liberal arts field, just like most Medill students do since more than 2/3 of their classes have to be outside of the journalism school.

Yes, the boarding is the same abroad and in NY. And I do not have to worry about finances because I have a governmental scholarship from my country. But, thanks so much for your advices. I think Medill an offer that I just cannot turn down. :)
