Which is better?

I'm a junior right now. I am going to apply to bs/md progs in the fall. I was wondering what would be better for my app. Volunteering at a hospital, or research?

I have about 200 hours at a nursing home, and 100 hours at a hospital. If I volunteer again this summer at a hospital, I'd get another 100 hours.
Or I could do some research at a local uni

I've shadowed 1 doctor

I’d diversify a little bit and throw in some research if it’s not too difficult to obtain- the more experiences the better. Good luck!

Research by far would be the better choice given your extensive prior volunteer work.

It does seem like you have volunteer hours under your belt already I would suggest to go with the research. You can still once a week for an afternoon or every other week put in a few more volunteer hours too.

Some schools require the research and others do not. You might want to read about the schools you are interested in and see what their requirements are.
Good luck!

Thanks!
I’ll pursue the research

Make sure you are following your passion not just checking the volunteer or research box.
