Which is better?

Been trying to decide which to go to Dearborn or Ann Arbor. I have heard Ann Arbor is a more prestigious school but is Dearborn almost as good? Dearborn is half the commute but that doesn't matter too much.

They are in completely different leagues.

srsly? Do a little bit of Research. Ann Arbor is MUCH more prestigious than any other school in MI.

That’s probably your family telling you this, and they don’t know much other than that they want you to stay close lol. I get the same thing, my family keeps trying to tell me that UofL(University of Louisville for those who don’t know, like most) is a prestigious engineering school, because I live IN Louisville.

UM Dearborn and UM Flint are way below UofM

U of M - Dearborn and U of M - Flint are basically Community College offshoots of the real U of M in Ann Arbor. That’s not to say that the Flint and Dearborn campuses aren’t good for certain people, but if you’ve got the option to go to Ann Arbor, you shouldn’t pass it up.

what is U of M - Dearborn? ;)

Not even close. At dearborn you won’t have a class larger than 35 students (with the exception of large science courses) and it could feel like another four years of high school. Two different animals here.

^A positive?

There is no comparison. The Ann Arbor campus is a powerhouse. It is one of the top 3 or 4 public universities in the nation and one of the top 15 or 20 universities overall. Dearborn and Flint aren’t even top 50 public universities.

Thanks everybody for replying but is Dearborn still at least a good school?

Alexandre: Essentially do U of M - Flint & Dearborn diplomas reflect the same degree as an Ann-Arbor one? That is are they one and the same? Or are they recognized as separate schools?

Sophomore and Adam, what matters is what YOU know. Michigan-Ann Arbor is one of the nation’s top 3 or 4 public universities. Dearborn and Flint don’t crack the top 100.

Of course, graduate schools will also differentiate. If you want to attend graduate school someday, a degree from Ann Arbor will be respected a great deal more…and yes, Dearborn and Flint are indeed considered separate schools and your transcripts will definitely specify which campus you attended.

I am not sure if Employers will necessarily make the distinction, but only students from the Ann Arbor campus will be recruited heavily on campus by major employers.
