- Science Olympiad #1 in State Event (I live in a competitive state, but SciOly is not listed as one of my extracurriculars so it will look out of the blue)
- National [Language] Exam Perfect Score
- National Merit Semifinalist
- Harvard Book Award
I would say Science Olympiad and Harvard Book Award are top two. Then the perfect score. The national merit semifinalist is the bottom.
Science Olympiad
That said, applicants (and their parents) need to eliminate the words “impressive,” “prestigious,” “best,” or similar words from their vocabulary until after decisions are made. It is the rare application/course schedule/EC that will “impress” admissions. Perhaps the AO that read Malala’s application was “impressed” by her ECs, but she set the bar high. Students should do things that are right for them
If Science Olympiad did not make the EC list, putting it in the award section is a perfectly legitimate way of indicating your participation. Remember, although it should be used judiciously, there is also nothing wrong with adding a few more qualifications in the Additional Information section.
Another vote for Science Olympiad.
My understanding is that book awards are not all that impressive to AO.
What are the 4 Honors that you believe come ahead of the four you listed?
Right? I want to know as well! Impressive!
