If it’s hard to think of Johns Hopkins as a Big Ten school, note that another recent development could make things even weirder …
Meh, not that weird. SDSU plays Pac12 men’s soccer with only 5 “actual” Pac-12 teams. Is it is interesting that Utah, Air Force and Denver are the only men’s LAX teams west of the Mississippi. Locally, here in the SF Bay Area, I’ll I ever see is women’s LAX teams, even though D18’s HS has a men’s LAX team.
As a sophomore, my D18 tried out for her HS LAX team. She DOR’ed after one day and decided to go back to her club soccer team. I found it fun to play for those 2 brief weeks before tryouts. 8-}
How did JHU enter this conversation? It is a great university, but it is not a Big 10 school and has no place in this thread. Competing in one sport, just like Notre Dame does in Hockey, does not make it a member. JHU belongs to the Centennial Conference, along with Bryn Mawr, Dickinson, Haverford and Swarthmore to name a few.
The Big 10 has many exceptional universities. Michigan and Northwestern are the top two overall, but UIUC and Wisconsin come close. In Engineering, in addition to the four already listed, Penn State and Purdue are also stellar (all 6 of those universities are ranked among the top 15 in Engineering), while virtually every single Big 10 university has a top rated Business program.
