Which laptop should I buy for University?

<p>Hi. I am planning to start university in August 2012, and require a new laptop. Just needed your advice on what would be a good choice for aerospace engineering.
I need the laptop to last quite long-say 4-5 years. The following are my requirements:</p>

<ol>
<li>The occasional gamer; i occasionally play games such as nba 2k 12, cod, nfs, etc</li>
<li>University work, such as word, cad, etc,</li>
<li>Movies, music</li>
<li>Usage of software such as adobe creative suite, etc</li>
<li>relatively large multitasking; skype, dreamweaver, games all running at the same time.</li>
</ol>

<p>The question i had in mind was should i go for an i7 processor or an i5 processor. </p>

<p>The main choices at hand are:</p>

<p>Dell n5110 15R with i7, 4gb ram, 500 hdd, nvidia 1 gb graPHICS (930 dollars)
OR toshiba satellite l755 with i5, 4gb ram, 640 hdd, 1gb nvidia. (750 DOllars)</p>

<p>there is also another choice i was looking at: toshiba l755-with i7, 6gb ram, 2 gb graphics, 750 hdd (1050 dollars)</p>

<p>Definitely go with the i7 processor if you’ll be doing gaming/heavy memory using. The Toshiba 6gb ram one looks really good, though I’d look for a Sony equivalent, I prefer them to Toshiba, but honestly Toshiba isn’t that bad.</p>

<p>THanks… I was thinking along the same lines, but was concerned whether i would actually utilise the full power of an i7, as theres no point investing in one if im not going to use the power (the large money difference is an issue as my budget was initially around 750 dollars). any more ideas on what i cud do?</p>

<p>Get the i7. As an Aerospace Engineer, you’ll probably need to run software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD. Those are very processor and graphics intense.</p>

<p>I wouldn’t recommend a Dell or HP. If you have to buy a Windows based machine, look into buying a Lenovo. Those things are built to last, unlike Dells and HP machines that have high failure rates.</p>
