laptop for an aerospace major!

Hi I'm intending to major in aerospace and I know there has been a discussion thread here from another intended aerospace major last year but I want to ask now since the technology has changed. I'll be a freshman next year and I have a budget of 1200 dollars, which is just enough to cover the cost of the new 2011 Macbook Pro. But I'm wondering if it's worth the money...

I've been avoiding Toshibas and HP because I've heard pretty bad stories about them and personally, HPs are nightmares. some of the good options i've come across is:

2011 Macbook Pro 13.3"
Toshiba Protege r835-p55x (when bought from the microsoft store, i get a free xbox)
Sony S-series vpcscafm/s (it came out during this month)
Any Samsung laptop above $900

I have a soft spot for samsung because they tend to make awesome laptops that just have a solid all-around feel. Please, I'm open to any advice, especially from those who are in the aerospace field or a similar engineering field! thank you

Really? Because Toshibas are known for their very high quality. I’m writing this on my Toshiba Satellite A665 right now, and it’s awesome. Plus I got it for $800. Any reason you chose tiny, underpowered laptops in your list? Because the one I’ve got is cheaper and more powerful than any of those.

I’m an aerospace engineering major by the way. Honestly, you don’t need a fancy laptop as an engineering major. You can use the computer lab for all the intensive stuff, but it is nice to have the option to do all the work at home. In order of most usage, the programs I’ve done work on for classes are: Word, Excel, Powerpoint, MATLAB, and Solidworks. As you can see, not terribly hardware-intensive.

“HPs are nightmares”
In the past i would have agreed 100%, but lately they’ve been making some solid well built laptops. Their new envy 14 will release on the 15th of june, you should take a look at that particular model.
