Which laptop to buy?

dam one thing im worried about is the security in the dorms.

This is obviously my first time living away from home, but are the dorms safe from theft?

I don’t really think so…

just keep your dorm room closed , carry stuff with you, also get to know everyone to see if you can trust them

things are usually chill at the reshalls, but there are always a few aholes out there who steal laptops and sell them… hell i had my $300 longboard taken at the end of the year in a building where everyone trusted everyone enough to leave laptops and stuff out all over the place. had to tap into my savings and cheap out for a while to buy a new board and make sure my parents didnt know the first one was stolen…
as for laptops, buy a lock for it, the one you tie to your table or bed, cheap and effective security!

Can we setup up security cameras, catch thieves, and then sue them for multiple charges that end up with them in prison for life

lmao, creativity ftw!

im calling it a night. got work/class/hotassheat in the morning @_@
hit me up on fb if ya’ll want: Mehedi Munna
peace!

well for songs, movies, etc. why not consider an external hard drive? If anything happens to your laptop knock on wood at least you’ll still have your external hard drive. (: Only problem is you probably don’t want to bring your exHD everywhere. Iono, it’s still an option. haha

Yeah, I should get one of those

think I’d need at least 200 GB

My mp3 player kinda counts as one but you know, it’s an mp3 player…

I’m kinda wondering what to buy also.
Something that fits my needs such as a time management program, or MP3 player.

Laptop vs. Iphone ?!?!

I saw this tiny laptop as the size of a lunch box on sale for like 650 bucks at the electronic store just below UCR bookstore.
Pretty cool one.

Thanks guys, all tips were helpful. I really want a dell, and that’s probably what I’m going to get. I’m into gaming, but nothing really hardcore, so I’m not so sure I need XPS. So would the Inspiron 17 with Duo processor, 3GB memory, 320 GB hard drive, 6 cell battery, and a 4yr ltd. warranty be enough? It’s about $1000 right now. I’m willing to pay about $1,300, or a little more if I really need to.

if you’re willing to pay $1k+ why not get the XPS?

My advice is to not get a Dell. They are just the worst PCs out there, in my opinion. I think you should get another laptop. Maybe an Acer, HP, or Sony Vaio (this is a really really expensive laptop).

Dells wear out faster than any other PC I have tried.

Well, I’m planning for a Compaq with AMD

mebbe HP though

I get my laptop sunday wooooooooooooo thx to my aunt lol

I know quite a few people who have had dells and they have lasted them years, plus I’m getting 4 yr warranty, which is fine to me.when that one gets old and stuff, new technology will most likely be out so I’ll get a new one. the thing with the XPS, I said I’m willing to pay that much if I really need to, but if I don’t need to get an XPS, then I won’t. Which is why I asked if the Inspiron 17 was enough.

On the topic of how long computers last, when do you know that one’s failed?

Once I had a computer whose processor kept failing, but that was pretty much it

the CD/DVD drive can burn out after a while…

everything else tends to stay the same…
although the battery will die fast, it can be easily replaced

Yeah that’s all expected. that happens with all laptops. There’s no PERFECT laptop.

a standard laptop can last easily up to 4 years more or less, this is very arguable because i still have a 98 laptop that sucks but still works like a charm.

So having said that, hopefully after 3-4 years, it would be time to get a new laptop not because of the condition, but because of new technology.

That’s exactly what I said.

If you are searching for dell, you can try looking through dell outlet to find some deals

Eh, dunno about deals

I already found one for 450 dollars, and I don’t know how exactly I might burn through it in just a couple years, so I’m not worried

btw **** Intel
