Which liberal arts colleges have the best theatre programs?

I'm thinking of majoring the theatre, but want to study plenty else.. art, romance languages, south asian studies, general humanities.... advice?

Not sure about this, all I know is that Meryl Streep went to Vassar!

same. I want to do acting, and major in something else. I'm lost...

How's the drama department at Barnard?

I am friends/ colleagues with a number of the faculty at Barnard. They are top notch! I have also had the opportunity to work with recent Barnard grads professionally. I was impressed.

Northwestern, Georgetown, Vassar, Barnard, Skidmore, Bard, Sarah Lawrence, Williams College, Kenyon College, Pitzer College (I think), Chapman (I think), Muhlenberg, American University ... to name just a few ...

Thanks Kat and BrownEyes, I've asked the question on the Barnard board to no avail, so it's nice to know that if I was accepted there, I'd have a good opportunity!

Can anyone suggest some good universities in either Canada or the US that offer (preferably a 4 year) program where economics would be my major and Theater/Acting/Drama my minor?

Evike1: Many, many schools offer an econ major and theatre minor. We’re going to need a little bit more about you to help - how selective a school are you qualified for? Do you want to be near a city? The US and Canada is a really big area! Do you have any preference for region?

It would help if the other students posting here would give some of their preferences, too. Most good colleges and universities have a full selection of majors, including theatre, and offer double majors. Be a little more specific, and we can help you all much better.

I’m quite sure Northwestern has a very well respected Economics department and that it is common to minor at NU, but I’m not certain you’re able to minor in theatre, which is a restricted program.

Maybe someone else knows?

I do know that NU is reputed to do more on-campus theatrical productions than any other school in the country – upwards of 60 shows per year – so there are ample opportunities for non-theatre kids to perform.

NU does have a ton of opportunities - and they told us last week that they do have a Theatre minor.

Northwestern indeed has a ton of theater productions, but I am not sure if it is more than any other school in the country. For example, I believe Yale has about 100 productions per year. NYU/Tisch has over 100 per year as well.

Also, here is the link to the Theater Minor at Northwestern:

@soozievt – you’re no doubt right. I have no firsthand experience but had recently read that NU did more annual productions than other schools. Honestly anything over 10 productions a year sounds like a lot to me!
