I am looking at colleges so far as a second semester junior and I was wondering which of these liberal arts colleges have amazing theater programs?

“Amazing” is a high standard, but some places to start looking (and at the risk of slighting many):

On the CC “Top LAC’s” list:
Barnard College
Kenyon College
Oberlin College
Trinity College (Connecticut)
Vassar College
Wesleyan University
Whitman College

Some other LAC’s with good theater reputations:
Bard College
Beloit College
Bennington College
Connecticut College
Emerson College
Goucher College
Hampshire College
Ithaca College
Muhlenberg College
Occidental College
Sarah Lawrence College
Skidmore College
Wheaton College
Willamette University

I can vouch for Sarah Lawrence. My child is a soph there now and is having an excellent experience. Access to NYC, and all of the theater resources it holds, has proven to be invaluable.

I visited about twelve or so schools with my daughter who will be seeking a liberal arts education with a concentration in Theater next fall. At each school we visited she attended classes, toured the theatre departments and met with students and professors. Of the schools we visited, she found Williams, Barnard, Brown, Northwestern and Fordham the most exciting for a theatre student. Some of the schools she visited and decided not apply to include: Bard, Amherst, Yale, Smith, William and Mary and UVA (feel free to PM with any specific questions). Unfortunately, we never visited Vassar or Wesleyan, but had heard great things about those schools’ theatre programs. Good luck with your list! Visit as many as you can!

I’ve heard great things about Wesleyan

Davidson’s sounds pretty good: <a href=“Theater at Davidson - Davidson College - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/davidson-college/1512140-theater-at-davidson.html

Kenyon’s is well-regarded (famous alumni include Paul Newman, Allison Janney and Josh Radnor), Vassar (Meryl Streep!) sounds topnotch, and Wesleyan grads are everywhere .

Can you tell me more about the Theater Program at Bard and what you or your daughter thought of it?
