I am a high school senior and I am currently applying to West Point for the class of 2014. I have been told that I am really competitive and I am qualified academically, medically, and physically. In the event that I do not get a nomination or get chosen from the National Waiting List I plan on attending college and reapplying until I am accepted. West Point is my dream and I do not plan on stopping until I achieve it. I got accepted to VMI today and I will probably be accepted into NC State University as well as UNC Chapel Hill, I plan on doing Army ROTC (hopefully on scholarship) no matter what college I attend. Would attending VMI give me a better chance of getting accepted to West Point in the future, since it has the military atmosphere, opposed to just doing ROTC at a civilian college? Thanks for any help that can be provided.

This is just an assumption but it’s based on reading many of these posts over the years. I think if you are in ROTC it should be equivalent to VMI. In either case you’re showing your commitment to the military.

Best of luck to you and let us know what happens.

If a candidate reapplies, the most important factor is usually the grades they earn in their college courses.

Hang in there, the waiting is always the hardest part…

PS. Congratulations on your VMI acceptance!

Thank yall very much. I feel like I am a strong candidate and would be successful as a cadet, the nomination is the only thing I am worried about. I was thinking that since VMI is regimented like west point that it would give me a better chance and prepare me more. The waiting is definitely the worst part, I’ve been waiting for years now and I’m ready to find out. Thank yall for your help and guidance though.

ann,

does it matter which classes i took.
i’m a poli sci major and i’ve taken lots of social science classes and earned high marks.

the science/math classes that i’ve taken I earned b’s.

my cumulative transfer gpa is 3.8
with college gpa being 3.5

Stesla 2: I believe they look for As and Bs in core courses - language, math and sciences.

wmace10: you are correct that VMI would be good preparation for West Point and would be helpful if you were to reapply.
