I was accepted to UCLA as a transfer under MIMG. I really enjoy the subjects you study under MIMG, but I have heard they wont be beneficial for med school. So I was thinking of maybe changing my major to physiological science. Anyone have any experience with either of these majors? How are the classes and which is better preparation. I have heard MIMG is hard, but since I am interested in both subjects I am willing to work at either.

it doesn’t matter. med schools don’t care what major you are as long as you fulfill their requirements, and you’ll get the prep you need mostly in med school (undergrad isn’t really meant to “prep” you for med school, as med school covers different sets of topics than those covered in upper-division. that’s why there are medical students who did liberal arts majors in undergrad, as long as they completed their biological pre-reqs.)

O well thank you! Would it be better just to take a few anatomy or physiology classes then just to be familiar with the body prior to med school?

couldn’t hurt, but you’ll be relearning those subjects in medical school anyways. go into whichever major you’re more interested in or passionate about, and get good grades in those classes. that will help you more than the “prep for med school” you’ll get out of them.

i would strongly advise you to major in something non med school related- this is the last time in your life you will be able to learn something outside of medicine, plus it will make your a more well rounded person. most premeds are boring to talk as opposed to religion majors, humanities, psych, etc

^gee, thanks.

^ only speaking the truth

thats not entirely true. if you find the statistics somewhere, you will see that all majors have the roughly the same admission rate, give or take a few percent.

its true, though…you will look more interesting. but then again, you have to take some extra classes.

so to sum it up: just do whatever.
