Which major is harder? Accounting or Finance?

In terms of workload, which is harder?

No question: accounting is usually harder and definitely more work than a general finance major. However, I would say that pure "computational finance," and it does exist as a major, is probably harder than accouting but not more work.

For the most part, most business deans that have accounting programs in their curriculum will usually tell you that accounting is the hardest major in the business school. It is referred to as the marine corp of buisness because it is so regimented.

^^^^^^^^^^

And ur an accounting major right?

Pffff,...my pal at wharton says ppl generally find MIS somewhat harder than the rest of the concentrations.

Generally accounting is the hardest one. It will vary depending on the school and person, as usual, but don't be surprised to see that accounting is the common answer.

How is your post relevant to this thread?

Because taxguy is trying to make accounting sound L33T. You aren't a Marine taxguy, you're a freaking tax guy, Air Force at best. The L337est of all are the I-Bankers, they are like the Navy Seals of the business world.

The hardest course in ANY business program is business calc aka finite math aka fake calc, bar none. It's worth the most credits, so that should be a clue. I failed it four times and switched my major to Communications.

Vectorwega, I have noticed in several threads that you like to question how relevant posters posts are when they have shifted slightly away from the primary topic. How are these posts of yours relevant to threads? To me, it doesn't hurt to expand one's horizon and understanding even though it may not be completely relevant to the thread's topic. We are still learning aren't we? Maybe someone who wanted to know if MIS is harder than Accounting read that post. I apologize if I came at you hard.

I haven't taken Finance classes yet but accounting is pretty hard in my opinion. MIS seems just as hard.

Business Calculus is a basic 100 level course. It was required for my business degree but it was worth only 3 hours (like every business class I am taking). The course is probably different at every school. I laughed when you said you failed it four times. Maybe you just aren't a math person.

i passed finite math last semester with an A :/

and i got a B in poli sci 20 (controversial legal issues)! :(

Got a B in finite math lol, the prof didn't give B+'s which I could have gotten. lol.

Football: CPA's are like the Naval Aviators, one up that one! Anyway, too bad you won't ever be in either! Let me say this, Taxguy probably makes more in a year than you'll ever make in a decade! Leave him outta this, because he is just trying to help people in HS get on the right track.

BTW: Stop using words like leet, and **** like that, it's so gay and nerdy...

As a finance major, I vote for finance.

I got a A in business calc despite not taking a formal math class in 6 years and have taken anything above Algebra 2. All it is a few principles and then procedures of finding derivatives.

Finance, accounting, MIS, etc are all quite easy when compared to certain majors in other schools (ie engineering majors).

Because the poster was posting with the maturity level of a 16-year old ****** bag. that's why. He was just talking trash and was not trying to further the conversation. There have been many conversations about the difficulty level of MIS on this board. A simple search would pull this information.

son1 notes,"And ur an accounting major right?"

Response: Right and I also minored in finance!

wow people, way to completely trash my thread .___.
and no, i am 17-years old ty very much. I was just confused as to which to choose. I am currently filling out the common app and I only wanted to get a little more info about those two majors. Any other suggestions?

rofl , this thread has turned into a lulz thread

hey and its good to use words like 1337 and stuff, if u dont ur a n00b.

Well the general answer to the OP's question on this board is accounting, and well none of the business majors are half as hard as some engineering/science/math majors.

So there , i said some very random stuff, half of which i dont believe in. If u still have a problem with me then let me know, coz i wont care!

So the final answer is it all depends on the school and their program.

When I took business calc four times, a lot of it was word problems, finding out the dimensions of ****, and the volume of a cylinder, and 3D stuff. Derivatives, double derivatives, second order derivatives, partial derivatives, and 2-5 new rules per section and 5 sections per chapter, 8ish chapters, all needed to be memorized in 2 seconds. I failed each and every exam each of the four times I took it, and I got a 650 on my math SAT. Got an A- in introductory accounting cuz it was all arithmetic, not math. I am now a Communications Major and will one day get my Doctorate. I don't know if you know this, but a higher level of education usually coincides with a higher income.

Funny, I found elementary calculus less work than Intermediate Accounting. I guess to each their own.
