Which math route to take?

so im a sophmore in highschool. im currently taking 2 of 3 possible honors classes offered (english and asian studies, science isn't my thing), and the rest are required classes. so i guess you can say im taking the one of the more rigorous courseloads offered, even though it isnt very rigorous.

anyways, my options are:

Jr: AP Stat
Sr: IB Advanced Math

or

Jr: Pre Calculus A, B (take C over the summer)
Sr: AP Calculus

I know the second route is harder, but I plan on majoring in business / economics, so I think the 1st route would help me more. i'm not looking to get into any ivy league schools or really prestigious colleges, but which route would colleges most find impressive / which route would help me the most?

my dream college is UCLA, but right now it looks like a bit of a reach. i mean its still possible if i really focus my jr and sr years because i am taking full IB/AP courses with the exception of science. realistically i'm looking at university of washington or university of oregon.

oh yeah and 1 more thing: i'm kind of low on EC right now, so far i have:

JV Basketball (will be on varsity for my jr and sr years, and maybe team captain my sr)
world quest competitor
pacific asian affairs club member

and thats about it, haha. what do you recommend I do to increase my EC? will getting a job help? what are good ECs that look good on transcripts especially when applying to a school as high caliber as UCLA? thanks.

I sent you a personal message in response to this thread.

The second route would be a better option for an economics major. Calculus is important for economics, so much so that most colleges will require students to take higher level math classes as part of their studies. Calculus would give you a leg-up, both helping you look like a better candidate and helping you to finish your math requirements faster.

Still, take what you can manage.

ah i see.

well everyone i talk to all tell me that the best way to go is calculus just because it helps so much more in college.

anyways, any ideas on how to increase my ECs? would a part time job be a positive addition to ECs? I still have some community service i have to do which ill do this summer.
