This could come off as a dumb question, but I’m pretty inexperienced when it comes to understanding business schools admissions and such. As someone who originally aimed toward an MA/PhD program, I haven’t had much time to study beyond the scope of a niche set of graduate programs. As of yet, I’ve gained a lot of interest in International Business and am aiming toward an MBA that has some relevancy toward that area. I also considered International Law, but seeing as its extremely competitive and time-consuming, I though an MBA would be more appropriate for what I want to pursue, especially since its somewhere within supplier responsibility. I’m currently enrolled as a sophomore in a top-50 school with a 3.86 average GPA (if that really counts for anything) and I’m double majoring in English and Global Studies with a possible minor in French. I feel as though coming from the humanities/social sciences field may be a bit of a handicap with respect to the economic/mathematics portion of the MBA course load, but I’m confident enough in my skills to persevere. I’m also aiming to take a few classes in statistics and macroeconomics (most likely while going abroad to Switzerland), and I’m hoping that will prepare me enough.
As for job experience, I haven’t had too much time to get too far, but I have done some administration work as well as completed a few internships, one of which was as a writer for an online publishing platform and the other as a marketing intern for a technological company in Silicon Valley. I plan on continuing into marketing and administration in future work alongside school, though I’m not too sure what work I’ll find myself in after I graduate. If its of any help, I have also done on-campus activities such as event planning and being an active member of the ~200 student honors program.
I love studying politics, but I don’t want to be backed into a corner where I can only practice law. I thought going after an MBA would be the most suitable choice, but I don’t really have any understanding of the different programs offered at each school. I’m hoping to bump up my GPA and aim for a GMAT score of at least 170, though I’m not sure if even that will help me enough. I know I can get a steady job with my previous experience after undergrad, so that portion of the admissions assessment isn’t an issue for me. My real question would be which programs/universities you would think are the best fit given the information I’ve provided. I want to be hopeful and attempt at getting into top-tier schools, but I also need to keep a level-head and focus on what I can do to possibly get into a lower-tier university. Thank you for reading this overcomplicated question, I really appreciate the help!
