Which of these AP Exams do you recommend taking independent study?

WUt about instead of Independent study, if you took it a community college.. chemistry that is.. would that help? or is chem just a killer.. either way..?

Definitely, without a doubt, microeconomics, and I'll wait and see how I do on the test Thurs. to say whether macro.

I think that all APs are essentially doable as IS. Princeton Review and Barrons do a good job of picking the tests apart for neat digestion.

I have taken microecon, psych, physicsB, chem, calcBC, USH, stats, and music theory. Seriously, though, after taking 7 of them (econ = thursday) I really believe all these AP's are very self-study-able.
I'd recommend SSing:
AP Environmental Science
AP Psychology -- a joke. Took it today. I really spent only like 100 hours studying this altogether, and I'm expecting a 5.
AP Microeconomics -- Make sure to get help from others w/ graphs, etc.
AP Physics B -- take at least a 3 week course though. It'll help.
AP Physics C -- have calc under your belt.
AP Statistics -- logic is 1/2 the class, so be logical! Note: all of the review books are notoriously bad at making questions. Many might disagree with me, but after taking stats from a very good teacher, the quality is really discernable from the AP test, which is much better.
Bio might be okay, since I hear it's mostly memorization.
Funny, Chem and Physics I thought were both very easy. Honors physics and honors chem are very different from the AP counterparts, but after taking them, get a PR for physics, and for chem get a Barrons, and you'll be set. It really isn't that hard!

AP Psychology -- a joke. Took it today. I really spent only like 100 hours studying this altogether, and I'm expecting a 5.

oh, is that all? :-/ You people and your diligence...

yeah. Well, psych was the most crammable/preparable. Look at the 99MC that was floating around somewhere here. And get a Barrons for psych, and take the 2 tests that are in there, and review the chapters you're falling behind on. You'll be more than ready.

SS APUSH, if you think you're good w/ history. There are simply way too much resource out there (internet & books) for USH that if you start SSing early enough, you'll get it down. Just pick a few different time periods and topics, and study them till death (e.g. WWII, Era of good feelings, colonization era, issue about slavery) in preparation for the FRQ essays. It helps if you've taken a USH class before (6,7, or 8th grade?)

Calculus BC. Maybe it's just me, but AP Calculus is definitely one of the easiest exams to prepare for.

The free-response question types do not change year after year. Only the numbers change.

i did stats independently this year, and barely worked for it, and i'm expecting a 4....it was alot easier than i though. environmental would be easy too, if you had a science background, especially if you took AP biology the year before, cause they are almost the same thing

Are there any real prerequisites for AP Psych, in general? Or is it kind of in a class of its own?

I would laugh if there was a prerequisite for psych. Though, none of the AP's really have a prerequisite. You don't need precalc for calc, for example.

econ is possible, but i'd reccomend it only if you're good at math, not because it's really math based, but because it's just that mentality.

If you're thinking about comparative gov def. take the us gov test. 1) because it's free 2) because it's mostly just APUSH over again. If you watch the news you're basically covered.

APUSH is a LOT of stuff to cover. It's good if you love it, but if you want some easy social studies credits i'd go with phsych and human goegraphy. they also don't have the dreaded DBQ, which isn't bad, but is another skill you need to learn.

Macro is only half a year class in my school, Micro the other half, so just doing one is really easy

if you can read graphs and multiply, micro is not that bad

The AP Exams I have experience with or know people who do (I've taken 10 exams total; I'm not BSing):

AP French Literature - My experience with Languages and Literature (includes English) is that you need a teacher or someone who can grade your writing critically and learn from him/her to do well. Friends who have taken FL's tell me that getting critiqued by teachers is essential for free response parts.
AP English Lit and Lang - See above. Make friends w/ an English major. :)
AP Environmental Science - Yeah, a joke (From a friend who did IS)
AP Psychology - Also a joke (From a friend who did IS)
AP Macroeconomics - If you study (I did and owned)
AP Microeconomics - If you study (I didn't and bombed - not an indication :) )
AP Chemistry - Probably not (Took the class and did decently - you need lab experience)
AP Statistics - Totally doable if you learn to use your TI-83 (essential for test)
AP Comparative Gov't - Also totally doable
AP CompSci A - totally doable if you are decent at computers, but you must have experience on the computer before you test
AP CompSci AB - Doable, but you really need some help from a CS person to explain things. Also see CS A

I would strongly advise NOT TAKING calc bc unless you have a very very strong math background. I wouldn't recommend self-studying chem either.

AP Bio was very easy. I hear envi sci is easy. In addition, econ is easy, and stat.

Actually, I believe that it depends on your personal strong points. If you're good in a particular subject, then of course, you'll have the motivation to study.

after taking a course and reading the study guide, i realize how much easier the AP test was than the hw sets i've been doing for class.

and there were a few topics my teahcer didnt discuss that were in the prep book.

i think if u pace urself right, u can self-study micro and/or macro.

danielsjang: Look at the 99MC that was floating around somewhere here

Could you post that thread URL? :)

self-studying chem is doable, but it requires a lot of time, practice, motivation, and perseverance

Zachsta: i have a copy of the 99 psych MC (thanks to a generous CCer) and i can e-mail it to you if you want

Oh, that's alright sjyaung, I was just curious what the "99" referred to--I'm guessing now, the 1999 exam?

yeah 1999 MC exam
it's good to practice with. some of the questions on this year's exam looked very familiar...

Of these:
AP French Literature
AP Environmental Science
AP Psychology
AP Macroeconomics
AP Microeconomics
AP Biology
AP Physics B
AP Physics C
AP Chemistry
AP Calculus BC
AP Statistics

I'll probably take most of those in classes. So as for Independent Study, I'm deciding probably between...
AP French Literature
AP Environmental Science
AP Psychology
AP Macro/Microeconomics
AP Statistics
