So far I’ve been accepted into Queens university in canada, Western ontario, Simon Fraser, University of Toronto and I have received a scholarship of 8000 dollars from Carleton. I’m not too sure of what I want to study yet but I was thinking maybe something involving political science. So far which of these uni’s should I choose?
What’s your budget?
What’s the net price at each?
(net price =(tuition, fees, room, board) - (scholarships, grants).)
Carleton
carleton
Is that annual need based aid from Carleton? I think the only merit they offer is $2K per year for NMF (which would total $8K over 4 years).
I imagine the cost difference is quite large. What is the net cost of each, and what is your financial situation? Do you envision being involved in US politics eventually, or Canada?
I think OP meant Carleton University in Canada?
Ah… didn’t know there was one. I did check to see if this was in the Canada forum, and since it wasn’t, I assumed they meant the one in MN (which does seem out of place with the rest of the list!). I still think the budget question is relevant, though.
Do you want an urban experience or a small town experience? Have you ever been to Toronto or Ottawa or Vancouver? Where is home for you? If it’s not Ontario, then Western and Queens are not near major airports.
UofT is god awful for undergrad. I would pick Queen’s or Western, depending on which one you like more when you visit.
(Senior at Ontario high school!)
If you’re serious about political science, including international relations, I think Carlton is the only one of these with a major school devoted to that (http://carleton.ca/npsia/prospective-students/)…it’s oriented towards graduate degrees, but there might be some trickle down to the undergrad level…guest speakers, excellent faculty, etc.
I’d be wary of the blanket assumption that U of T is horrible for undergrad. I have a master’s degree from there, and knew plenty of grad students who had gone there for undergrad, and they spoke highly of it. The Ontario government’s main building is right smack in the middle of the UofT campus, so for poli sci it doesn’t get much more convenient than that.
I’ve visited all of these campuses and I am leaning towards Queens tbh, I like the campus feel
How good is it for political science? Or applying as an undeclared major?
