I know these schools aren't very selective but I enjoyed my time at all of these schools and I was wondering which one would be the best for Engineering?

Arizona State University
University of Kansas
West Virginia University

I'm going into Electrical Engineering at all of these schools. Whether it be by rankings or how students/alumni feel about their alma maters. Money isn't an issue for my family so that isn't going to come into play for the final decision. I'm also out of state for all of these schools.

I noticed that Arizona State has a pretty good reputation for Engineering, also it is situated next to Phoenix and I heard Intel in Phoenix hires a lot of ASU Graduates, so that prospect sounds pretty sick to me, but that is a long road to conquer before than.

I work with a guy that has two engineering degrees (AeroE & ME) from WVA. Besides not understanding how he graduated from hands down a ridiculous party school, i have no idea how he has two engineering degrees, let alone one, because he’s a certified moron. I think they are a third tier engineering school with zero recognition. I would stay away.

WVU has some pretty good connections to a bunch of attractive industries I think. I don’t think it’s a horrible school if you work hard and make the best of the opportunities which it provides you. Then again, I don’t have first hand experience with WVU so I can’t be sure.

Alright, now WVU seems a little less attractive to me, anything about ASU or KU, are they considered Party Schools, actually I know ASU is considered a party school, but does that deter from the Academics at each institution, I don’t mind if there’s a lot of things like that going on, I just want to Academics to be good as well.

ASU i’ve heard of for enigneering, i don’t know how but the corelation is there, not kansas or WVU…not that it matters, I never even heard of harvey mudd till I came onto this forum haha…I know quite a few k-state grads though

isn’t ASU the school that didn’t give obama one of those honary doctorates…that was funny, again not that it matters

plus, the sunny weather at ASU will add +.2 to your gpa : )

ASU has recently been doing a bit of shafting its engineering department in favor of focusing on biosciences, which is one of the main reasons that my grad advisor moved from ASU to TAMU. Still, it is a respectable school as long as you don’t get caught up in all the riff raff and end up flunking out of engineering. That threat exists anywhere though, ASU is just notorious for its party atmosphere.

That sounds a little crazy, but I noticed that they have a specific area of ASU dedicated to Engineering Research and I think that is pretty cool because I would like to do a little bit of research to boost my resume. Also ASU has a camp for its Engineering Students in the summer, where they go to Prescott, AZ for 3 days. That sounded pretty neat to me. But I want to hear more about Kansas and West Virginia Engineering before I make a complete decision, moreso Kansas.

For what it’s worth, a lot of schools have a similar summer program, though not all.

Also absolutely every major engineering school that offers Ph.D. degrees will have a substantial amount of research going on. The difference is how prominent that research is, and that is where you end up separating universities into tiers.
