accounting or finance?? and why??

I suggest you head over to the business major secton under “majors”.

There are a bunch of people there who have made poor career choices and are trying to take it out on others over there while “giving advice”

Just kidding - but seriously head over there.

Accounting and Finance are really so similar, it will make no difference to employers (especially when I guarantee that at least 1/2 of your classes are the same).

Accounting is the “language of business” and really needed in everything business related, where as finance is more management/controlling etc
Accountants merely report numbers, where as financial consultants earn (or lose) those numbers.

There’s really alot of job security in accounting, regardless of what people say. In finance, it’s not as steady but still good, but I personally am not a big fan of finance because of the fact that alot of your success/failure depends upon externalities rather than things under your direct control.

^
You really have no idea what you’re talking about.

Only people who’ve only took Accounting 101 think of it as the “language of business”. Accounting is about management and control. Finance is about derivatives and asset pricing.

Binks – you’re right that there’s more job security in accounting, but pretty much everything else you said isn’t true.

Finance is more specialized than accounting. Accounting covers a wide range of subjects so I’d say there are more job opportunites in Accounting.

-Finance and Economics major

Accounting is Finance for people that aren’t bad at math. You can work in financial careers as an Accounting major, but the reverse isn’t quite as easy to do.
