Which one should I choose for undergrad - Rutgers or Baruch?

Hello everyone,

To any Rutgers or Baruch students, can you tell me about your experiences? I'm choosing between Rutgers and Baruch for my undergrad (majoring in Business Administration). Which one could help me get into Columbia, HBS or Stanford for my MBA?

Can you tell me about the professors? How big the classes were? Was it tough?
I really appreciate your time :)

MBA admissions is much more dependent on your work experience after college than it is on where you earned your undergrad degree. If that is your primary concern, you can choose the cheapest of these two.

But which one would be easier for me in terms of communicating with the professors? That would be essential for recommendations for the MBA.

Hello msafy4,

If you are a NY resident, then Baruch probably will be a better choice in terms of money. Baruch is twice as much cheaper than Rutgers (5k vs 12k for residents), and if you are a resident, then you even may go there for free because of the TAP and Pell Grant that you might be able to get.

In terms of academics, Baruch has professors that came from all sorts of Ivy league schools, but it also has some professors who are not that familiar with English language lol. I’m not saying that they are bad, but a lot of them came from other countries, so English is not their first language. (so as mine)

There are some big classes that contain up to 300 people, but those are mostly for a certain general courses that many people have to take. Yet, most classes are small, for 20-30 people. If you really want to have small classes all the time, then you should apply for Macaulay Honors program at Baruch. It is a prestigious program, and it will beat Rutgers in anything, including internships, the size of classes, etc. By the way, from there you won’t have any problems with getting into a top schools that you have mentioned.

Personally, I wouldn’t say that it is tough to get good grades at Baruch, but there is one thing that you have to know: please do not take more than 15 credits per semester because it might hurt you, and your GPA. (from 12-15 will suffice)

In addition, most of the top companies recruit at Baruch, you just need to have a good GPA to get an internship, and then the offer.

I would recommend you to go to Baruch, if you live or planning to live in NY; otherwise, Rutgers is probably more well known in other states.

@ Toshtemirov, I appreciate this SO much :)!

Well, yes I am a NY resident, and I probably will end up getting in for free if I decided Baruch. I was just thinking about Rutgers because some other people told me that Rutgers is better than Baruch prestige-wise and academic-wise.
Were you a Baruch undergrad?

and about the Macaulay Honors program at Baruch, is it much more competitive than the regular program? I don’t want to end up working so hard in a hard curve, like the Stern curve or so.
