Rutgers New Brunswick or a NYC school like Baruch? (Price is a factor)

I spent my last two college years in a local community college in NJ, my average is about a 3.6 and my high school gpa was a 3.4. Now, I can use my families New york address can get the in-state tuition for Baruch, meaning that price-wise, it is MUCH cheaper than Rutgers.

However, I am not too sure how it measures up name wise. Rutgers is a very well known school, and I believe I would have much more fun there. However, I am going to be paying off my loans. If I go with Baruch I would have much less debt when I graduate, however I'm not sure how good the school is. I've looked up some forums about it and most of the students seem miserable or just "satisfied" with the school saying "you get what you pay for" and such.

Now Rutgers is very well known, however Baruch is a school right in the middle of NYC, and from what I've been told that holds a lot of weight when it comes to job interviews in the city. I'm still very lost as to which school to choose and with deadlines closing in fast I need to make a choice soon.

Anybody have personal experiences similar to mine and can offer some help in making the right choice with some reasons why as well? Thank you

Since price is a factor you need to first verify whether you would get in-state rates at Baruch. Have you looked at those requirements? https://www.baruch.cuny.edu/undergrad/residency.htm

Baruch is well-known for many finance/economics/business fields and is right in the city. However if you don’t have free housing at relatives/parents, it’s not worth it.

Would you commute to Baruch? Do you have free housing w/family if you went to Baruch? I’m sure a diploma from Rutgers is as good as one from Baruch.

I would be able to get the in-state tuition for Baruch, but I would have to dorm there. Are the dorms there that bad? I would have to dorm at Rutgers aswell, price-wise Rutgers is cheaper than Baruch, but i’m not so sure about how good the name of Baruch holds up to Rutgers

For economics/finance/business, Baruch is considered better than Rutgers. However if it’s, say, for art history or physics, Rutgers would be better.

Would you say it would be worth it to go to Baruch instead of Rutgers? Rutgers is more expensive than Baruch, however it has much more of a college life and clubs. Anyone have experience with Baruch? Is it as dull as I’ve heard?

Apply to both of them. If you are admitted at both, compare your actual projected costs to attend, and visit both. If only one admits you, or if both admit you but only one actually proves to be affordable, the decision will be made for you.
