Good morning CC users, I am having trouble choosing an online college. I graduated high school this year June 2014 and attended SUNY New Paltz for about a month before a ran into some financial problems. I am now in debt for the time I stayed at the college, but I want to go back to school since my parents said they'd pay for my debt at SUNY New Paltz only if I attend school. I have all Ws on my transcript for the courses that I was taking at New Paltz for the fall 2014 semester. I feel like I would be more comfortable taking online courses, at least for a year or two while I complete my pre reqs. I need help with picking one that is pretty good and will allow me to transfer my credits over to most schools. Also, I would prefer that it's not very expensive as I will be taking loans. I want to major in Computer Science/Engineering and minor in Psychology/Sociology.

The best thing for you to do is to take some community college classes that you know will transfer. It has the advantage of being the cheapest option too. I don’t know about your area but in my area some CC classes can be taken online, check with your local.

^^^^ That’s exactly what I was thinking. Go to CC rather than committing to an online program.

Online courses take a lot of self-discipline. You can try one online class and see how it goes.

In addition, some CCs have guaranteed transfer and credit-acceptance agreements with in-state public universities. Potentially, these can make the post-Associate’s degree transition painless – and they are also very cost-effective, since one’s CC hours automatically are recognized by the university.
