Which Penn Professor to conduct research with?

I have toured UPENN and gotten a very good feel for the school, but am oblivious to any specific teachers with whom I would like to study or conduct research with, as one of the supplemental short answer questions asks. I will be applying to the college of arts of sciences and my chief areas of interest are philosophy, religion, physics (especially relativity), Body/Mind, health (chiropractic), and finance. Can anyone speak to their experience with a professor in any one of these fields that had a profound influence on them? Please tell me as much as you can. Any insight I receive will be most appreciated, for I really do want to collaborate with professors at UPENN.

I don't think that I can help you much; I've never even been to Penn, and I've only corresponded with a professor at Wharton through e-mail. For this question, I just went to the PPE Department's website, found a professor, looked at his concentrations, and wrote about why I woud like to study/conduct research on that subject.

Don't stress this one too much.

bcitsno, what's the web address?

Say you want to work with Joe Paterno

burmell,

just go here http://www.college.upenn.edu/departments/index.html and select the department and professor that you're interested in.

for example, i went to the PPE website at http://www.sas.upenn.edu/ppe/ , looked at the affiliated faculty, and went to their websites.

example of faculty website: http://www.phil.upenn.edu/faculty/freeman

Should we go to technical matters or stay on the surface?

Supposedly, this question isn't weighed as heavily as the "Why Penn" question, so the general advice seems to be that we shouldn't stress this one too much.

Is professor McGonnagall an option?

I don't necessarily agree with the advice saying "don't stress this". This question is YET ANOTHER good opportunity to demonstrate where your interests lie and how that makes you diverse--saying something like "I want to study with Professor Biology because Biology is my favorite subject" will obviously damage your chances of being admitted. Take half an hour to quickly read through each professor's research topics (don't even have to read the paragraphs, just the titles) and explain why that particular bit of research is interesting to you in the context of your interests/your intended major.

Do people consider Filch a professor or is he just a groundskeeper?

U r hilarious Stevenwheatland

hey if im applying to wharton, would i name a wharton prof or a penn prof

...wharton professors are penn professors... and you can name any professor you want, except it's a little easier to write about someone who teaches in your major.
