Which SAT score to send?

Hi guys! So I retook the SAT in November to see if I could squeeze out a higher score for my college applications. Unfortunately, the subject I studied for did not improve (Writing), and I got the same composite score of 2200 (though my superscore is 2230). Here's the breakdown:

January 2013: 730 CR 770 M 700 W
November 2013: 760 CR 740 M 700 W

Which one would be better for colleges? And will 2230 (considering my CR+M is pretty high) be competitive for top schools (Cornell, Brown, John Hopkins)? Should I bother taking it again (it would be my fourth time and would be in January)? Thanks!

If you really want to take it again, you can. Are you a senior? Because if you are, you’re gonna need to use of these two for applications. You can take it again, but keep in mind that you won’t be able to submit new scores until later. If you’re a junior, definitely take it. Take it as many times as you can and then just superscore. You might be able to raise your writing.

As for which scores to send, why don’t you just send both of them? Neither one is a bad score. Cornell requires you to send all scores anyway and all three superscore.

I’d say submit both now, and if you really think you can raise your score, take it again and update your application when the results come out.

Haha I’m a senior, and I’m worried because I don’t know if these scores are good enough this late in the game  is January SAT really advised for seniors?

Most seniors I know don’t take it in January. Only people who got bad scores and REALLY need to get something better. Personally, I think your scores are good for the schools you’re looking at. Especially if your other application components are strong. I would spend your time now working on some really good application essays if you haven’t done that already. Remember, SAT scores are not the only defining component.

For Cornell’s class of 2016 the average CR was 685, Math 717, and a combined average of 1401. And the middle 50th percentile for admitted students to Johns Hopkins last year was 2090-2290. Couldn’t find any recent info on Brown, but I don’t think you have anything to worry about.

It’s all up to you though. There’s absolutely no harm in taking it again. Worst that could happen is you get a lower score, and if you do, you don’t have to send it. Best thing, you get a higher score and can update your application.

2200 is a good score. If you are planning to send scores to UCs, they ask for all test score. score choice can not be used.

Send them both. Nice job! Best of luck.
