Which school for an undergraduate major in Physics/Geophysics/Materials Science?

Currently I am an international high school senior applying to US schools this year. I'm interested in physics, geophysics and materials sciences and plan to go to graduate school in the future.

The problem is that I am not sure which major of the three to pursue yet. Besides, relevant majors in engineering, such as materials engineering and engineering physics are also doable for me. I think I have to choose a school that has good reputations in all (or at least two) of the majors. My SAT I score is 2270. And I have already decided to apply to Caltech, MIT, Stanford, Cornell, UC Berkeley and UCLA. But I am not sure if I should apply to U Chicago, Rice University, Carnegie Mellon University, UC San Diego or University of Michigan in consideration of majors. Besides, will Harvey Mudd College be a fair choice?

Seeking for information on school comparison or advice on choosing any of them. Thanks!

University of Chicago has no Engineering degrees so you wouldn’t have any options there.

Oh you’re right… That’s the reason why I am not sure whether to apply it or not.

If you plan to get an advanced degree, physics might be the best place to start. With a physics degree, you can go into graduate programs in physics (evidently), geophysics, materials science & engineering, and other forms of engineering too.
