Hello all, I am a senior in high school and am planning to apply to the following schools for fall 2016:
-Cal Poly Slo
-University of Washington
-University of Arizona
-University of Oregon
-SDSU
For each school, I am going to apply under an undergrad business major. I have not yet visited Washington and Oregon, but I have heard very good things about both schools and will visit later this year. The rest I have already visited and have loved different things about each one.
I have done some research on each of the schools business programs, but I’d like some other opinion as to which of these colleges has the “best” business school. When I say best, I mean which one will most likely set me up for success, and which one is the most heavily recruited by top businesses. Cal Poly’s business school seems great, but I never see it on any list of top business schools online?
I would go with Udub, if costs are not a factor. They have many organic relationships with both technology (Microsoft ) and a variety of businesses (eBay, Amazon, Boeing, etc…) it has the largest endowment and other related departments are top notch.

Hello all, I am a current high school senior in southern California. I go to a competitive, well known public school, and I am a white male. Average yearly income for my family is ~$150,000.
The schools I am going to apply to are:
-Cal Poly Slo(Business Administration)(Also am most likely going to do early decision here since it is my #1)
-University of Washington(Business)
-University of Oregon(Business)
-SDSU(Business)
-UCSB(Probably economics since they do not technically offer a business major)
-Also a few safeties like Colorado and Arizona
My statistics are:
GPA: 3.4 UW
3.5 W
(I think my CSU gpa is around 3.48)
-AP classes: APUSH(3), AP GOV(currently taking), AP Statistics(currently taking)
Extracurriculars: Around 30 hours of community service volunteering at a children’s summer camp. Soccer and volleyball for 4 years. Involved in two clubs at school, but do not hold any board position.
How do I stand with these schools?
Thanks!!

WHAT are your parents saying? If they won’t pay the $45k-50k for those OOS publics then take them off your list.
Colorado isn’t a safety if your parents won’t pay all costs (and it’s running about $50k OOS).
Schools don’t “set you up for success”. Kids who attend elite colleges seem to step to the front of the line, but one can argue it isn’t anything the schools have done but just a reflection of the caliber of kid that can get in. At middle-of-the-road schools like these the only thing that is going to “set you up for success” is the hustle you put in to find leadership positions on campus, get internships, and good grades.
A passive attitude putting the responsibility on someone else is a recipe for disappointment in general, so is expecting a large public is going to give you all the advice you need and coach you to make sure you are “set you up for success”, IMHO.
@mom2collegekids you literally did not answer my question at all, but instead addressed a completely different post. And yes, my parents are willing to pay to answer your irrelevant question. Comment on the right post next time
@GriffBaum my brother attended college there(didn’t major in business though) and a lot of his friends had very good things to say about it. I also toured Eller and really liked it. My friend’s brother also graduated with a degree from Eller and had no difficulty getting a well paying job.
@mikemac very true, I guess I never really thought of it that way. I guess I just want to study at a business school that is more likely to have better companies recruit from them, but i guess in the end it all depend how well I’d perform.
BTW…the reason I asked about money being an issue is because often students are asking about schools only to find out that their parents wont pay. Best to get that figured out ahead of time. In your case, you’re all set. Great. But, most students find out that they’re not.
We have had wonderful luck with Cal Poly SLO. It is a favorite of the big four and also has many ties to silicon Valley. I have had two sons go to the engineering school and am having another younger son apply to Business for 2016. BTW the son who graduated from there thus far , started his employment in the six figures. The kids have jobs to go to when they graduate. I glanced at the University of Washington and felt overall it was slightly easier to get into. I have had friends kids go to the U of A and in their Junior year they don’t get into the business school. The U of A is much easier to get into as a school than Cal Poly SLO and I do not feel its general reputation is as good.
I have found no drawback to Cal Poly Slo except maybe that US News and World Report does not give it the credit is due, mostly because only about 70% of the kids end up graduating vs. other schools are in the 80-90%. It is a more difficult school.
