Which school is best for me?

Hello I am a High School Senior and have been accepted to Penn State, Rutgers, Virginia Tech, and waiting to hear from Boston University. I am a NJ resident to obviously Rutgers is going to be my cheapest choice but it the extra money for say BU or PSU worth it? Penn State is ranked the best by pretty much every place but in the end it ill be a lot more expensive. Rutgers seems like a nice choice but what threw me off was that it is ranked 101 by USNEWS for business and 52 by businessweek. Whats up with that??

I will be majoring in Finance. Is a double major in Economics a good idea? Or should I just minor in it? Thanks alot! -Nike45

Are you going to jump right into the business world upon graduation, or do you want to go for an MBA first? If you’re aiming for the workforce, go for Penn; if you’re aiming for grad school, Rutgers should be fine. Also, an Econ major will be beneficial if you’re heading for grad school, but a minor will be fine if you just want a job.

Well I think I want to get a job before I get my mba so I can pay off some debt but I definitely want to eventually go the mba route.

Then take the cheap route. Professional experience is most important when applying for an MBA if you’ve taken time off.

Like is it hard to get into a good mba program when you’ve taken time off to work?

It is easier to get into a good mba program when you’ve taken time off to work

its easier? wow why is that? is it harder to get a better score on the gmats when youve been outta school for a little?

PSU is the way to go.

Do NOT plan on going to grad school right out of undergrad if you want to do business. Any decent MBA program will expect you to have about 5 years of work experience. It makes the classes more relevant because you’ve had first hand experience with some of the topics and you can share your experiences in class as well as learn from your classmates.

That said, Rutgers isn’t ranked well because they don’t have a great business program, but none of the ones you mentioned really do. I agree that PSU is the best of the ones you’ve mentioned, but if you meant to say it’s ranked #1 by anybody (it’s hard to tell from the way you worded this, but you might actually be confused), it is the University of Pennsylvania that is ranked highly and that is not the same as Penn State U.

thanks for the info but i meant that psu was ranked the best of the ones ive been accepted to
