which school is better for landing on the wall street investment banking after graduation? U Chicago economics or Columbia economics?

U Chicago is the top econ school! But then again I am hugely biased and not at all interested in i-banking.... sorry.

BUMP

After graduation? I'm not so sure. U Chicago has one of the top economics programs in the country/world, and I wouldn't be surprised if it is better than Columbia's. However, it is possible that Columbia would be able to set you up with an internship in wall street during your years there due to it's proximity to it. Almost all internships that you could get through U Chicago would be with leading financial instituions in the city (there might be some wall street ones, but I am not sure). How this would affect your job prospects after graduation is unknown to me.

I have a friend who co-founded a successful Wall Street firm. I asked him this very question at one time. He said there is much that goes into hiring someone other than simply where the person went to school, but that UChicago grads are immediately thought of as not only being very smart, but effective analytical thinkers, not so with other schools he said, even all of the Ivy's. Chicago, it seems, has a special intellectual cachet not found elsewhere.

Could you ask him if this rep as effective analytical thinkers is true of all top schools with a LAC focus, or just UChicago?

I have, according to him, while all the top schools are respected, Chicago grads standout, at least in terms of perceived intellect and ability to tackle complex problems.
