which school should my daughter go to?

She has been admitted to the following schools:

Washington University in St. Louis: Conway/Proetz Scholarship finalist
VCU with Deans Scholarship and Funded Scholarship
University of Texas at Austin
UCSD
MICA with Creative Vision Award and finalist of competitive Scholarship
SAIC with creative Honors Scholarship
SMU with significant scholarship
MCAD with significant scholarship

We are TX residents. D is portfolio silver national medalist, 1 gold key and 2 silver key at regional level. She is top 15% of her class with SAT score of 1480. We applied for mixed schools (universities to art schools) because she is not sure if she would fit in a pure art school. She attended a summer program last year in an art school and realized that she may be happier in a larger school with diverse students. Also she is concerned that art school could hinder her ability to explore other majors if she ever changed her mind about art.

Having said all above, we are considering WashU, VCU and UT as our top 3 schools. Are we on the a right track to only consider universities?

We don’t know much about these 3 schools, we visited UT last Spring break and she loved the city. She is going to visit WashU this weekend and VCU the next weekend. We would like to hear from the parents who have kids in these 3 school about pros and cons. WashU sure will come in with a huge price tag, but is it worth the investment?

Any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated, thanks everyone!

Forgot to mention she applied for design major or studio art, although she is not quite sure about that either. Mostly she thought design major would be easier to get a job after graduation.

What can you AFFORD?

If $$ is no object then , yes, choose from the top 3 on her list.
And I’d choose UT if it is more affordable to you. Wash U is NOT worth more, especially for a non Engineering major.

With the scholarship to VCU, it is almost the same price as UT.

WashU is on our top list due to its overall higher ranking, just in case she switches major down the road. Its affordable to us but it is 3 times of UT or VCU.

Academically, VCU students will not be at her level. The General student population is not top level kids. It’s really only the art school that draws ( pardon the pun) high achieving students.
