I agree with the earlier poster, UIUC is more ethnically diverse, but Madison is a cool town. Either choice is a good one, but academically Wisconsin is a bit stronger. Some of their programs are world renowned like Sociology for example. Now if we were talking engineering this would be a different story, UIUC is top 5 in engineering

One other note, the library system at UIUC is one of the best in the country. On par (and some say even better) than the Ivy League schools and UC Berkeley.

Spendy? Looks like you've been socializing with the Coasties.

No honestly. I used to travel the smaller towns in the interior of Wisconsin quite often. I heard it a number of times from different people. Maybe they were all realated? Lol. Just wondered. I guess it's not a commonly used term. :-)

I'm from Wisconsin(small town by LaCrosse) and am definitely familiar with the word spendy. I don't know if I've ever used it, but it certainly doesn't phase me if I hear the term.

Hills and Lakes--Cornfields and flat--which sounds better? I heard the "spendy" term often in Madison Wisconsin.

I am close to picking U of Wisconsin as my school.
Few more questions, how's U of Wisconsin's dorm? Personally, i prefer single room but if the double rooms are comfortable and agreeable in size, i wouldn't mind double.
Also what about transfer rates? Are there a good chance of transfering from U of Wisconsin to different Private Universitities after one or two years?
Thanks for all of your attentions!

Don't worry about transferring just focus on Wisconsin. It is a great school there is no need to think about transferring.

It sounds like "spendy" must be a regionalism from rural western Wisconsin. It's not part of the patois in the urban lakeshore.

Good luck to the original poster at the UW. It's a very hard place not to love.
