which school?

I want to study things in both the school of Engineering and the school of Liberal Arts....
to which should I apply??

I am a Liberal Arts student who's taken classes in the Engineering School, but my majors are still in the College of Liberal Arts. Also, many engineers take liberal arts classes (in fact, they're required to). You have to decide what seems more likely: that you'll major in one of the liberal arts concentrations or in one of the engineering concentrations? Worse comes to worst, you can apply to transfer your freshman year to the other college. I have a friend who came in as a freshman to the liberal arts school, discovered a passion for civil engineering, and is nwo going to graduate with a BS from the engineering school. Also many engineers transfer to LA. Of course, transferring isn't guaranteed, as you still have to fulfill the standards for the other college in terms of stats, etc.

Isn't it easier to transfer out of the engineering school b/c:
1) the rigidity of the curriculum within the engineering school is much stricter than that in A&S
2) A&S is easier to get into in the first place

...does Tufts allow people to double major? And then could I get a degree from each of the schools?

oh... and I'm a girl... would that change which school would be easier to get into?

You are allowed to double major. As far as whether you can do one major in LA and another in Eng you've got me -- I'm stumped. Anyone know?

And your being a girl would not affect you, and if it did, it would so negligibly. Schoolwide, there's more girls than guys at Tufts (something like 53%); there are probably less girls than guys in Engineering, though, as is the norm at every school.

Just to clear up a few things that lolabelle said that are not quite right...It is very easy to switch between the two schools, you don't have to apply as a transfer or anything like that. It's just a few forms to fill out. Also, being a girl will help you a bit in applying to engineering because that school is only about 30% female.

oh, ok! sorry about the misleading info -- the friends i know who've switched made it sound as though they really did do a whole application process because they used the phrase 're-apply'... but if greenboy did it himself, or has some more accurate info, then he must know... and the most recent # for % of girls in the engineering school is 34% in 2002.
