^ Financial problem? Or did you just lose your mind?

UW, UIUC (honors), UCSD, UCI (honors), CSUF
(honors)

CS major btw

S turned down BC honors, UCB, Villanova, Fordham, USC-deans scholarship, Northwestern

Turned down
Berkeley-sort of having “buyer’s remorse” after turning cal down as this was my second choice. Do you guys know people who turned down cal this year?

Other schools are (in preference- haha!):
Georgetown, George Washington, NYU, Fordham, Brandeis, Syracuse, BU, Northeastern, Gonzaga, Loyola Marymount, Loyola New Orleans, Loyola Maryland, UC Merced, University of San Francisco

I’m a poli sci major and I think that UCLA is the best in regards to my “over-all” best fit college.

I have a question though: Does the prestige factor of cal’s undergraduate program significant enough to trump UCLA? I think this is the question that causes me to have “buyer’s remorse” :(

^ If you can still change it, go to Cal. Cal is more prestigious even in the Philippines and you’d value that later on.

oh, can’t change it no more …

lol, don’t listen to RML. Look at his post history…he spends half his time talking up Berkeley. A huge amount of UCLA students chose it over Berkeley, don’t worry.

Hope you’re correct arcadefire… really hope you are :)

I don’t mean to disrespect UCLA as I think it’s a great school. But I work for a company that has headquarters in Manila and Bangkok. And in those countries, I know for a fact that a Berkeley degree carries a more significant weight than a UCLA degree does. In those countries Berkeley is often considered top 5, maybe even considered more prestigious than schools like Chicago, NW, JHU, Cornell, Penn or Columbia. In the Philippines and Thailand, a Berkeley degree would lead you a long, long way. I understand it’s not quite like it in California. But the kid is from the Philippines and he’s going to work or settle in that country someday. I thought it was something that he should have considered strongly before he made up his decision.

@RML your intuitions are correct. Berkeley is above stanford and oxford in terms of reputation:

[Top Universities by Reputation 2011](http://www.timeshighereducation.co.uk/world-university-rankings/2010-2011/reputation-rankings.html)

however, in the U.S., i can’t think of anyone who knows Stanford and Berkeley saying that Cal is a better school (maybe comparable for graduate studies but that’s it.)

UCLA isn’t too far off either though (at #12) which out of 100 universities is still fairly impressive. I see UCLA’s prestige increasing every year though, so i doubt that the difference in prestige will continue forever.

Fromcal,

Carrying on earlier convos, I did want to mention that I got into Cal and some other schools I won’t name. The truth is, besides getting a Regents to UCI, UCLA was my “lowest ranked” college. I don’t regret going there. At all.

I wouldn’t worry about it. The internet is full of morons.

UCSD,UCI, and UCSB

I turned down UCSD, UCI, and CSUN.

Go Bruins!!

Turned down CAL, UCSD, UCD, and UCSB

Harvard

hah no. Turned down Cal and UCI, feels good.

ucla was about $5,000-10,000 from my cheapest and most expensive privates. overachiever, do you really think this was a crazy decision? it was a hard decision and i’m concerned… what do you have to say about it?

UCBerkeley
UCSanDiego
USC
Tulane U
U of San Diego
Pepperdine U
Loyola Marymount U
Pitzer

came down to tulane and ucla

Rice, Cal, UCSB/UCSD/UCD (regents). in that order of preference after UCLAAA

Turned down USC, Gatech, UIUC etc etc.

Every other UC, was guaranteed into 5-6 of them before I applied, and of course like everyone else, it’s always fun to turn down berkeley’s engineering
