Which schools do you need to pick the specific college of study?

Sorry for the confusing title.

What i'm trying to ask is if any of you guys know of a list of colleges that require you to choose the college of say, engineering, or arts and science, or computer science, etc. on your admissions as opposed to applying to the university of xxxx as a whole.

Also, if i got into the university of xxxx would there be another competition/application to try and get into their engineering school for example?

Thanks in advance guys.

I’m pretty sure most/all universities will require you to apply to either arts&sciences or engineering or other separate schools within the university. They wouldn’t force you to choose the specific department withing the school, like computer science, while you’re applying; however they might ask which departments you’re interested in.

Georgetown in one- you have to choose between the School of Foreign Service, the College, the Business School, and the Nursing school. I believe Carnegie-Mellon is another one, but I’m not sure how it’s split.

If a university has a business program it usually means you have to apply to a separate school within the university. UPenn and Wharton is the best example. This is sometimes, but not always, true for engineering as well.

I don’t know of any Liberal Arts Colleges that are split into different schools, for obvious reasons.

cornell also requires you to choose out of their 7 colleges. however, you get to choose 1st and 2nd choice.

All UCs
Georgetown
Cornell
Carnegie Mellon
Columbia (the college vs. SEAS)
UPenn
True for a lot of state schools, I think…

Northwestern, USC, GWU, BU, four more

alright cool guys thanks alot for the responses.
