Which Schools Should I Apply to?

<p>Hi I am starting my senior year. I am 17, male and in CA. I plan on applying to schools with good Computer Science programs. I know I should have a really good chance at University of Washington. Can you guys help me find other schools that are very good for CS that I might get in to?</p>

<p>GPA(W): 4.14
GPA(UW): 3.82</p>

<p>SAT I:
Math: 760
Reading: 620
Writing: 760
Total: 2140
Retaking SAT one more time in October</p>

<p>SAT II:
Math: 770
Chemistry: 720
Planning on taking Physics or History once more</p>

<p>AP:
Comp Sci: 5
Physics B: 4
Chemistry: 4
Calculus BC: 4</p>

<p>Senior Year Schedule:
AP Bio
AP Physics C
AP Gov/Econ
AP Stats
English 4
Photo (Necessary to graduate)</p>

<p>Extra Curriculars:
200+ community service hours, 2 years of varsity tennis, 1 year JV baseball, 1 year JV Tennis, Founder and President of Chess Club for 4 years, Exec member of CSF for 4 years (1 year of VP and 1 year of Awards Commissioner), and an internship with a software company in which I developed a mail merge application for the company to replace their outdated version.</p>

<p>Worth Noting: My only B's were in English Honors(accredited by the UCs as an Honor/AP class) and Spanish.</p>

<p>Please help me find schools with good CS programs I can get in to. (I was thinking UC Berkeley, UCLA, Carnegie Mellon, University of Washington) Please let me know...Thanks!!</p>

<p>Your ideas are good, also try UCLA and UC San Diego, along with Caltech and Stanford if you’re into the California stuff. UPENN and Cornell aren’t bad choices as well. And MIT, if you want to aim high.</p>

<p>I have heard of all of these schools but I am not sure how they line up with me…in terms of Safeties, Reaches, or Matches. I was wondering if someone on this forum would know how to arrange schools in a nice spectrum for me, since I don’t know TOO much about certain colleges yet.</p>

<p>This is basically a bump, can someone please help me organize a list of schools based on my likelihood of getting in?</p>

<p>For what it’s worth, I highly recommend that if you major in CS, you also major or at the very least minor in business. I doubled in CS and business, and I am so very glad that I did. I vastly outperformed other programmers in my first corporate job because I had an inkling of how the business side of the corporation worked and I could also “speak the language.”</p>

<p>Might want to look into Harvey Mudd.</p>

<p>@neal2jk: Oh ok thanks, I thought I might not be qualified enough for Harvery Mudd…Care to help me make a spectrum (like with reaches, matches, and safeties) since you seem to be well informed of CS schools?</p>

<p>Thanks dkunw, do you know of any other schools that have good cs programs which match with my stats well? I always thought UCLA was a bit of a reach, me being in california (lots of hype around LA/Berkeley)</p>

<p>UIUC is a good match and is ranked 7th for CS.</p>

<p>Carnegie Mellon in PA has a really good CS school, but it really hard to get into but it looks like you would have a chance. If you want to stay on the west coast though then your options are more limited, but there are a bunch of good schools on the east coast where as the west coast has Stanford, Cal Tech and a couple of others. But are you open to going that far away?</p>

<p>yeah, i’d say it’s a match/low reach school for you so maybe around a 7 or 8, it’s 4th ranked CS program in the US and with the rigor of your schedule and score it shouldn’t be too bad of a time getting in but I definately don’t think it is a guarentee</p>

<p>Oh ok and since U of Wash. has such a great program I was thinking it would be a great backup since getting in is relatively easy. Are there any other schools with comparatively good CS programs in which I have a better chance than at CMU??</p>

<p>UCLA and Berzerkley are such toss-ups. You never know if you’ll get in or not but you do have great AP scores, EC’s and SAT scores.
I think you have a good chance there though I am unfamiliar with the programs.</p>

<p>UW you could probably apply for the honors college too.</p>

<p>Carnegie/Mudd - no idea
Mudd is a boring area campus though, trust me (sorry claremont lovers)</p>
